The Matrix Revolutions - Jan. 6, 2004...

According to ign.com, January 6, 2004 is the official release date for The Matrix Revolutions.

http://filmforce.ign.com/matrix/arti.../441196p1.html

Is it just b.s.? Well, if it's true I'm sure we'll have an official announcement sometime before Christmas.

Isn't the record from theatrical release to dvd something like 4 months? I think I read somewhere that The Whole 9 Yards was released in this timeframe. No big deal for me, but it's kinda making me not really want to go watch nearly anything at the movies if I can buy the dvd just a few short months down the road.

Sounds right.

Reloaded went from a July to October three month release.

Early next year would be good. It would pick up on all the sales generated by kids spending their Christmas money. Plus, it doesn't make it look like the WB had a genuine turkey on its hands by doing the pre-Christmas thing.

I'm still waiting for the box next summer though.

Didn't Reloaded come out in May? That would make it a 5 month turnaround. Still pretty damn quick.

It was supposed to be a big release. But after a decent but unimpressive opening weekend, this movie has dropped like a rock. It won't even make as much money as the original Matrix and will probably make about $130 million less than Matrix Reloaded. I'm talking domestic numbers here.

While many smaller films would love to have Matrix Revolution's gross, when you consider that it is a Matrix film and that it cost over $150 million to make, its performance is almost embarrasing.

WB wants to get the DVD out quickly, because this movie will not be able to hold on to theater screens by the time Return of the King comes out. So they might as well try to capitalize on the fact that at least the movie is still fresh on people's minds and try to make as much money from home video as possible.

davisdvd.com is reporting an early date of 1/6/04 based on box-office performance and piracy fears:

Sounds official to me. From DVD Answers ....

Warner Home Video yesterday confirmed to a number of retailers that the upcoming region one release of The Matrix Revolutions will be arriving in shops from the 6th January next year. I'm afraid we have no other details on this super fast turn-around yet, although the disc is expected to retail at around $29.95. Naturally, we'll bring you the official disc specs and artwork as soon as they become available to us.

Its not December, but very close. Kinda sad because I felt this movie was better than Reloaded.

Agree on both counts, but hey we get the DVD in our possession sooner than expected. It's not all bad.

The UK may have had a July theatrical release, but the US had a theatrical release on May 14, I believe. So for the U.S., May->October is 5 months and 2 weeks

I dont really mind that its coming out pretty fast.
I remember '2 Fast 2 Furious' came out June 6th 2003 and was released in late September on DVD, which is almost about 3 months so its no big deal.

I hope Revolutions has plenty of extras
I wonder what the DVD cover art will look like

The record for fastest theater to DVD race belongs to "From Justin To Kelly" I believe. It opened on June 20th, and the DVD came out on August 26th, just a hair over two months.

Well, Nov. 5-Jan. 6 has that beat, don't it?

In the words of Keanu himself, this is most excellent news.

According to IMDB, Cool as Ice was released theatrically on October 18, 1991; and the laserdisc was released on December 19 of that year. So that ties Revolutions for video in general, but Revolutions still would have the fastest turnaround for DVD.

Nope

This from Digital Bits:

It's official... Matrix Revolutions will NOT be released in January has had been rumored. I've just heard from a representative of Warner Home Video, who explained that the DVD will, in fact, be released later in 2004. Expect an official announcement in January, but no disc.
