Bruce Almighty DVD - first one?

Is it just me, or does the first release look like the bare bones version that will be one upped next year?

It's just you.

Really, I don't see why they'd release another version when most buyers will assumingly be happy with this version and since it's the holiday spending season, it'll be a big seller. Unless there's a sequel (which I doubt), I don't see any reason for another edition to come anytime in the near future.

Universal usually doesn't make a habit of multiple releases on their newer movies, although they could look at what Sony does and get 'ideas.' My little rule of thumb lately is if the trailer is on this disc. If it has it, it doesn't mean that they still can't do another release, but if it does not have the trailer.... expect an SE.

I'm developing a new pet peeve... people who call DVD's with commentary, outtakes, 30 minutes of deleted scenes, and a couple behind the scenes features, along with good audio and video, as "bare bones".

I bought Dick Tracy on DVD without even a trailer. I got a stack of Paramount titles on my shelf with nothing on them but the movie and a smile. THOSE are "bare bones".

Sorry to rant, just a thought... still grumpy over the "bare" Indy trilogy set with over 3 hours of documentary footage for only $34.99...

I've taken to calling them "vanilla" discs.

Nice and yummy, but not any flavour.

I guess Indy Jones is a Strawberry Sundae, while something like the LOTR and Alian Quad would be full blown Knickerbocker Glories.

Um, excuse me, but I'll...er, just have to go to the supermarker now and stock up on "ice cream" (the commentary and extras kind)!

Maybe bare bones wasn't the best term. Given the American Pie revisits I was just figuring we might be seeing more Bruce in the future. Seems like there might be more behind the scenes and interviews out there than are on this first release.

you want bare bones... i have "the Pelican Brief" on DVD from 1997, the movie stops in the middle and you have to flip the disc over to watch teh second half of the movie. nothing else on the disc, that is bare bones!!!

Perhaps they will do a Tricked-Out or Ultimate Edition.

After watching this just minutes ago, I'm tempted to buy the DVD. Buy now or wait in the hopes of a new release?
