What are the best natural disaster movies?

I just saw the trailer of "The Day AFter Tomorrow" and I think it looks very promising... So what are in your opinion the best natural disaster movies ever? You can make a top 10 or top 20...

I have a weakness for nearly all of them... from VOLCANO to EARTHQUAKE to THE SWARM. I give them all a chance, and usually huge leeway as to what makes a good film in that genre.

Does Twister count? If so, I vote for that...

In my humble opinion, "Thats...Armageddon" is the greatest natural disaster movie.A rarely-screened gem from the early 80s that has one of Donald Sutherland's greatest performances. Not to be missed!

That's Armageddon is a Samuel L. Bronkowitz production and stars George Lazenby with Donald Sutherland as "The Clumsy Waiter."

There are a ton of good ones, from campy, to classics.

Campy...
The Poseidon Adventure
The Towering Inferno
Empire of the Ants

Classics...
Deep Impact
Independence Day
Gojira

Many many more.

Don't forget "Frogs" with Sam Elliott and Ray Milland. Campy to the max.

Frogs and Turtles Attack!

If you have The Movie Channel / Showtime package you should be able to catch it, as they have been running this film weekly for the past 2 years.

I actually had Frogs on the list, but removed it because it's not really a good campy movie. It moves WAY to slow. There are a couple good gross scenes, and many wonderful cliches used, but overall just not that enjoyable. IMHO, of course...

In the broad sense, sure. They all deal with some naturally occurring thing going nutty, some with a little outside influence maybe but nothing manmade.

I think all of these are pretty bad, Volcano particularly. Day After Tomorrow looks well-done though.

Well, its not a "natural disaster" movie, but neither is Frogs, so my nomination is Night of The Lepus, with Janet Leigh, a film about (yes, you guessed it) killer rabbits. Don't think it ever made it to video, but I had the pleasure of watching it at 3 A.M. on a local station about 10 years ago.

Much like lar I have a weakness for these movies and tend to grade them only within their own genre.

Deep Impact
Dante's Peak
Night of the Comet (great campy fun)
Perfect Storm
The Stand (if you consider man-made plague natural)

I still can't decide whether this was a really good movie, or that I loved the book so much that I was just thrilled to see those characters come to life on my TV screen.

Remember Earthquake was filmed in Sensurround!!! Catch the trailer for this sometime for a great laugh.

The Hindenburg. Not a natural disaster, but fits the "disaster" movie bill. I saw this in a theater when I was really, really young. I can still remember it. It was big stuff at the time & freaked me out.

Airport (then some sequels including Airport '77)

What about "Titanic"? Does it count? Iceburg disaster
