Best edition of Halloween?

noticed there are several versions kicking around, both in print and on Ebay...was wondering what the best one was in terms of transfer quality and extras.

Oh you opened up a can of worms now...

Watch how quickly this becomes a "I HATE ANCHOR BAY" rant. Expect me to join that chorus.

I have the single disc edition from a couple of years back, and was wondering if I should invest in the 25th anniversary edition or try to find the 2 disc tv/theatrical cut version on ebay

Halloween Limited Edition - 2 disc set
Theatrical Version and Theatrical Version w/ television scenes added.

P.S. Anchor Bay bites. That didn't take long. Now the real question is: How long before the "I hate Akkad" rants?

If you're an absolute diehard Halloween fan, the 25th anniversary AND the OOP 2 disc tv/theatrical release.

If you're a fan but not diehard, the 25th (more extras, easy to find, 1/3rd the cost).

I'm assuming your disc is the remastered one that is THX approved. If so, you should keep that, then buy the 25th Anniversary edition only if you're interested in the extras. The TV scenes are actually quite boring, and the transfer on the disc you have is superior to the one on the 25th Anniversary edition.

Check out this thread:

Which Halloween DVD should i get? (pics inside)

There was a very good discussion on this subject there, as well as a link to another thread that provides some great screen capture comparisons of the various versions.

I've got the OOP Limited Edition, and am quite happy with it. I rented the 25th Anniv. Ed. for the commentary and to check out the transfer. Again, I'm happy with the OOP LE.

You should pick up the Divimax 25th Anniversary Edition from Anchor Bay. Despite much whining, it is a terrific edition.

The only problem with the 25th anniversary edition is the color timing on the transfer. The transfer, is, I guess, technically cleaner, but everything looks much too bright and clear, whereas the print on the 2 disc OOP set has a murky, dark quality to it which I think better represents the theatrical representation. The 25th anniversary version looks a little bit too, um, I dunno, digitally? The commentary on the 25th anniversary edition is the same as the old Criterion laserdisc, so if you've heard or seen that, you're not missing anything except the documentary, which admittably ain't bad. If you can find it for a decent price, I'd say go for the 2 disc OOP set.
