Is Two-Lane Blacktop any good?

I picked up the OOP tin version of the film. I was wondering your thoughts on it. Is it worth a viewing? Or does it exist solely as limited appeal collector's nonsense?

Have not seen it, supposed to be very minimal and expressionist, sort of like a Jim Jarmusch film. Most of the dialogue was improvised. Directed by Monte Hellman, much beloved by Tarantino. Let us know how it is-was considering buying it to complete my Anchor bay tin collection.

Warren Oates carries the whole film, as Wilson and Taylor are very lightweight in the acting department...but then, I guess their characters are supposed to be anyway.

Not that bad, actually, as it could have been, without Oates.

It is one of those films that has built up a reputation as being great by those that have not seen it or remember it wrong. In the 80's and early 90's, the film was legendary. Then, it finally hit DVD.

I ran out to buy it when it was first released.

It is one of the first I sold when I began selling on Ebay.

Oates is good, Taylor and Wilson are not. There really is nothing to the film.

Except for the experimental-cinema influenced ending, which is pure transcendence for my romantically naive ass.

Yeah, totally agree with you mikenyc--rent the film for Warren Oates' performance alone. I think that was the last film he made before his untimely death of a heart attack, in fact. But if you're not a fan of Oates like me, skip it.

I've never seen it, but my husband has it on DVD. He says the acting isn't any good, he just likes it for the cars.
