My DVD-ROM menus are askew. HELP!!!

I have a 2000 Compaq Presario model 7478 computer with a Compaq SD-608 DVD-ROM.

It came prepacked with Mediamatic's DVD Express which I find too restrictive and cheap plus it had other problems including the one I am asking help on...

On the static menus where you highlight a button or text link the highlighted area (roll-over effect) is nothing but a bunch of dots and most of the time off center so much you can't read the button. I called Compaq with no solution. I installed PowerDVD v2.55 and got the same problem. I have even changed the monitor resolution and colors pallet with no success.

Has anyone had this problem and if so, what was your fix

!!!HELP!!!

What DVD?

I've tried nearly all the software DVD players out there and have yet to find one that will play 100% of all DVD discs flawlessly.

The problem is not with the DVD's themselves because the "movie" and background graphics are fine. It is just the "highlight" layer for the menu buttons on the software is crazy.
