Can Wait for These
I can't wait for DVD versions of Lawrence of Arabia, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Millers Crossing, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, all old Looney Tunes ever made, Superman/Superman II and all Godzilla movies ever made including their original Japanese audio with English subtitles. When are the studios going to get it together and release these on DVD?

Very hard to say. Some of these have rights problems (Grease, SNF?), others are saddled with directors reluctant to release, although Steve is getting better. Some rumors have Raiders as early as this year, and Close Encounters next year, but nothing official has been said.

I too agree that there are distribution and rights issues on some of the above titles. Musicals like Grease and Saturday Night Fever have more issues than director or movie studios because there are song rights to be considered as well. Some movies obtained the rights and since lapsed meaning they would have to obtain them again to redistribute the movie outside of their VHS contract - let alone having the songs in [CD] quality which disturbs some artists and music companies. All Politics!
I think I have seen some of the old Japanese Godzilla classics on DVD already in Region 1 distributed by Simitar ![]() [This message has been edited by Czar (edited 07-27-2000).] |
