![]() The link to mine is in my sig! I am such a geek, I love lists and charts and junk so I continue adding to my DVD list whenever I get a new idea. (I just added the Blind Buy column after posting in this thread) |

Heres mine
simple design and easy on the eyes. I havent updated it in about a month though, I use dvdaf now since its a lot easier to add movies. I really hate having to add the new html codes just to keep it up to date so I just use dvdaf for now. ![]() |

Thanks so much..I got most of my inspiration from the Apple website....and sorry the site is a little slow because I host on my cable modem at home and it's graphics heavy.
I also wrote a different custom script to do my music too: http://www.mike-lee.org/scripts/cdda...atabasemain.pl This one I modeled after the Windows Media OS.. --mike |

Mike, it's your personal site I've been searching for all over the net. I don't know if you visit dvdtalk.com as well, but I also started this exact same thread there hoping to come across your site there. Because I didn't remember where exactly I had found your site.
Your site is awesome and it's exactly what I was looking for. I just want to get some ideas to when I build my small personal site. I've came across many great looking sites including yours as well. So thank you...one question do offer your scripts? plmk...I'm still newbie at html and all. Once again you got one great lookin site! |

The code is not real pretty however.. I didn't use CSS and I'm sure w3c.org would have a heartattack looking at my html I started the project to improve my CGI skills about a year ago and I add features in spurts.Yes, I do frequent DVDtalk... I'm sure everyone here does ![]() Shnikey: I currently download the images or scan them in myself... I have quite a few discs that no one has high quality covers to. --mike |

build the database first: 1. Design the DB with the fields you want to capture. Include the movie name, imdb url and dvdempire url. 2. Enter the movie name, imdb url and dvdempire url of each disk manually. 3. Write a CGI LWP (perl or php) script to visit and borrow *all* the information you need from these two sites (including a download of the picture).. At this point, the database is done.. You'll probably have to tweak the data though because I have found some inaccuracies on both sites... and some times you just want things your way. ![]() build the UI or webpage 1. Think of a cool UI or, make a basic one using CGI. Create scripts to add/delete/modify and display the data.. It shouldn't take more than a coupla months to get something basic looking but fairly complete... unless you have 4000 DVDs ![]() --mike |

I have already before written a program you to yank info of IMDB. It took me awhile to write because the way I did it I had to parse all of the HTML; is that what you did. Anyways, thanks for the tips. I like the idea of doing my own instead of using a Guzzlefish, for example, because then it is my way.

It's much easier to think your DB through before creating it. I started my list with a small amount of info about each release, and then added feature after feature over time... it makes for messy code and DB.
But I've got most of it straightened out over time. Now I'm trying to think of new things to add to the list again :p Also, for getting cover art... the easiest and quickest way I've found is to use Ron Crawley's Gotcha Covered. You can find a demo here: http://home.mchsi.com/~ron.crawley/ and the registration only costs $4 or $5. Well worth it if you will be finding cover art for a large amount of DVDs. |
