While I love both movies, I'm a bigger fan of Alien. In short, I feel the creature lends itself better to a haunted ship terror flick than a war movie.

I thought it would be much closer because both movies got excellent reviews kind of like T and T2. But so far, the first Alien is winning easily...

Got to be a vote for Cameron. Aliens (the Special Editiin of course) easily ranks as one of my all time favourite movies. And as it was mentioned above the first Terminator is definately a preference over the second.

Two words... Ripley's underpants.

I love both films (and I bought the two separately yesterday instead of the Quad in November) but I have to go with Alien as the winner by a nose.

Cameron's film was wall to wall action and a lot of fun, but Ridley Scott's slow camera pans and moody lighting still give me the chills. I'm really happy to be able to finally own such amazing copies of both films, but if God commanded that I sacrafice one for whatever reason, Alien would have nothing to fear.

the first film is great but i find it loses something with repeated viewings, where as Cameran's sequel just rocks everytime i watch it

Big fan of both films here, too, but I kind of prefer Alien just by the slightest margin. Not sure why; I just think it's a little more affecting.

Both are good, but I have to go with the sci-fi classic Alien. I love everything about that movie and it works no matter how many times I watch it.

ive always preferred aliens. (i also prefer the theatrical cut more simply because the special edition seems too long [and also because alien death footage was re-used with the turret guns sequences... bah.. that has always bothered me])

well, ever since i first bought the alien trilogy (on video) when i was in grade 9, ive always loved aliens better. i watched all those movies for the first time on video, and at time, i thought alien was boring and slow while aliens was the rollercoaster ride i was looking for. after watching alien again in its widescreen glory and me being significantly older (not too much though), i'll admit that i now have a better appreciation for that film. however, aliens will always be the one dearest to my heart....

i probably just sounded like a total nerd there!

Aliens for me, only because I love it everytime I watch it. I loved the great cast, especially the minor Marine characters, especially the interaction between Hudson and Vasquez.

When I watched Alien the 1st time, I was probably too young, and couldn't appreciate how great a film it is. Growing up since then, I enjoy it more and more everytime I watch it.

Alien never worked for me.
The characters did too many questionable actions, unbelievable actions in those situations. And it's just too boring, sorry to say. I'm no youngster that can't watch a slower film either. I just don't see where the suspense and rivetingness is.

Aliens by FAR (other than giving props to Alien for doing it first, and establishing the whole premise, which gets big praise from me).
I'm just partial to sci-fi war movies.

Alein is a masterpeice of film making, and in my top ten of all time

Aliens is how sequels should be made agreat movie with the ability to stand on its own , a very nice twist.

But the magic still lies with Alien an arthouse sci-fi/horror film for the ages

In 1979 that chestbuster scene was a ground breaking surprise that no one saw coming. And its never been topped!

I bit torn on this one.

The first time through, Alien was much more enjoyable, but for longevity Aliens is one I can watch over and over again.

Alien depended allot on suspense and not knowing, once you know what's coming it loses a bit of it's kick.

Aliens is still fun to watch for all the great action stuff.

I still like all four of them though, extended versions of course.

This is a tough question because Alien and Aliens are two completely different styles of movies. Granted they share characters but the objective of each of those movies are completely different.

Asked a personal preference of which movie I liked better I'd answer this way.

If it is suspense, pyschological impact and fear factor, I'd say Alien.

If it is action, unfair odds and attitude, I'd say Aliens.

Like mentioned above, Alien did loose impact with multpile viewings. Aliens can easily be watched multiple times. Also Alien is better siuted for solo or small group (1-3) home viewings, Aliens fares well with larger group (4 or more) home viewings.

Now if I had to own one and only one of them, It would be Alien.

I saw it coming, because I read the Alan Dean Foster book first. My brother an I went to see the movie, and I thought he was gonna puke.

Can't choose between those two.

I've watched Aliens more than I have Alien also. Probably that's the same for most of us. Alien requires uninterrupted viewing, Aliens can be on in the background and still enjoyable.

Actually, Flash, I've watched Alien much more than Aliens and I can listen to the first one while I'm doing something else and still enjoy it. I think it probably has a lot to do with the score. Taking away nothing from the great job James Horner did with Cameron, something about Jerry Goldsmith's creepy score from the first picture always gives me a little chill, hehe

I love Alien, but I really liked the characters and Ripley better in Aliens. Spaceballs ruined the chest buster scene from ever being remotely scary :p

I think a poll like this is really a testament to how great both of these films really are. All four of the Alien films have a special place in my heart. I watched the Resurrection Special Edition today as a matter of fact and I'm always surprised at just how much of that film is effective (I personally think that it is sorely underrated). Anyway, to the poll.

I picked Alien. It's the first. It's the best. And, as I have said before, it ruined the genre for pretty much everyone else (except John Carpenter). No movie in this genre comes out these days without being held to Mr. Scott's benchmark.
