You can buy the six volumes of the series separately. There was a box set, but its numbers were very limited and fetch quite a bit on ebay. Here's a link to a search on dvdpricesearch.com. It looks as though deep discount is the cheapest at $17.99 a piece.

Oh, and if you like Cowboy Bebop you should check out Firefly. Very similar in a lot of ways. |

It's too bad you didn't ask a couple of months ago. DVD Empire had all 6 discs on sale for $14.99 each. I picked up volumes 2 thru 6 to fill out my collection after picking up volume 1 awhile ago.
DVD Empire has since readjusted the price back to $24.99 each.

I paid well over 14.95 for the individual discs and I can't say that I'm upset about that. Even at retail price the value of the content is so high that the price is justified IMO. Cowboy Bebop is arguably the best anime available. |

I think there are actually 5 soundtracks to the Cowboy Bebop series, not including the movie soundtrack. There's also a 4 disc box set compilation including rare and unreleased tracks and a live disc that was released in Japan last year. I might be wrong but I believe the extra disc in the DVD set was a rerelease of the first soundtrack. Just in case anyone's interested.

Amazon.com was selling the 6 individual DVDs for $89.99 (not a "box set", just buying all six disks at one time) which works out to $15.00 per. Sadly - although they still have a page up for it, it appears that the deal is no longer available - but it's well worth dropping them an email to check on.
Be aware that there are a lot of people selling a 3 disk box set (Region 0 and including Chinese subtitles) containing all 26 sessions (episodes), but that this is a bootleg. I've seen some of it and the video is watchable, but really breaks up during fast action scenes. I've also been told that there are some voice syncing issues with some episodes. Stay away from it and keep hunting for the 6 Bandai original DVDS to get the quality this release deserves. Plus if you like the series - go get the Cowboy Bebop Movie DVD today. Also - although I don't entirely see the connection to Firefly besides being a space show and a passing resemblence between the two primary ships, I very highly recommend that one as a purchase as well.

The special features on the movie release are not bad. I think there's a bunch of "making of featurettes", which are for the most part pretty short but some contain some interesting comments. A couple of music videos for some of the songs in the movie (at least that's what it calls them on the box, really they're just textless opening and end credits), art galleries, storyboard comparisons, "in depth" character profiles, and theatrical trailers. I think it's got the trailers for both the Japanese and the American release. The cover art and the title change kinda chew, but whatever, it's pretty damn fine as far as domestic anime releases go. The subtitle track's a little danky, but if you don't understand Japanese it's doubtful it'll bother ya.

Actually, Cowboy Bebop has the most amazing English dub of any Anime out there. In fact, it has the best English dub of any Japanese material period. I'd never suggest dub over subs in any other case but this one. Go for the dub. It's superb.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of good things about the Cowboy Bebop dub cast. I'm not that big of a fan, but it's pretty widely praised. I think my problem is more philosophical than anything. When they dub anime series in Japan, it's normally done akin to the radio plays of yore (i.e. all of the actors act together in one room and work off of each other). Domestic dubs usuallly consist of one actor laying down a dub track alone in the studio with little if anything to work off of, and a heavy concentration to synching the dialog with the animated mouth movemet. Could be for that reason, but dubs, including the Cowboy Bebop one end up sounding a little stilted and artificial to me, regardless of the quality of the actors involved. My suggestion is try 'em both and see which one you like better. Could end up being a bit of a catch-22 in Bebop's case though, because everyone I know that heard the Japanese cast first prefers them, while everyone that heard the American cast first prefers their interpretation. I'd check em both out though.
