KILL BILL- ready for pre-order....who buys online?
Edit:Some how I've hijacked the thread. This should have been post#8 not #1.
Ok Squid Lips I'll answer your question. Kill Bill's street date has changed from 2/3/04 release too a 4/13/03 release. I personally prefer too just wait and buy my new releases at brick and mortar store, because I don't like to wait for the product or pay the shipping fee. Occasionally I preorder online. Although when I do preorder it's usally only a week or less untill the DVD's release. My main three reasons for preordering are conveniece. Etheir I know I won't be able to get the title(s) locally for cheaper, or I know I won't feel like driving to pick the title up on release day, or I wan't a DVD thats not very mainstream. Eventhough I wait untill the last minute to preorder my DVD's they always ships on time (Before release day), and when I order from DVD empire I pay 5.50 for prority mail and get my movies 90% of the time the Monday before official street date. I prefer tho order off www.dvdempire.comtheir DVD prices are a little high, but they make it up with cheap shipping and a great website sopported by top notch customer service. Personally I've never liked the idea of preordering a DVD that won't even ship for one or more months, even if I don't get charged for the DVD untill they ship. I guess I just like to keep my options open.

I don't pre-order DVDs because
A) 99% of the time there are better deals when its released. B) There's really no point C) I know I'd forget which ones I pre-ordered. (Happened with LOTR:TTT EE) EDIT: Don't ask me how my post got to be second. ![]() |

KILL BILL- ready for pre-order....who buys online?
Kill Bill is now available for Pre-order...so it's getting closer (even though I will probably wait until it comes out as a 2 disc).
But how many of you actually pre-order online? I almost always tend to buy at stores unless I can't find the DVD anywhere. Granted, DVDPlanet is about a 45 minute drive from me, but when I factor in shipping sometimes, I'm not usually saving more than a buck or two when I order online from places than buying at a local store like Tower or Best Buy or Amoeba or wherever. Do you find the titles arriving on release day or usually after? Anyway, feel free to cheer Bill on or comment on your buying choices.... |

Yeah, most sites don't even have it listed on their sites at all, not even as pre-order. Amazon is the only one with a release date, and it's the April 13 date as SharpShooter5 mentions. That 2/3 DVD release date was just a dream.

Well, then Amazon is still dreaming because they just sent me this...
"Greetings from Amazon.com! You've previously signed up to be notified when "Kill Bill - Vol. 1" (DVD) became available, and we're happy to inform you that it is now available to pre-order! " ![]() |

Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target and Wal-Mart regularly have popular new releases at $14.99 or $15.99, which no online retailers match, so that's why I never pre-order. These prices are 40-50% marked off the MSRP. I don't feel the need to get pre-orders early like some others do, so I don't buy from the online retailers that ship early. The DVDPlanet store in Huntington Beach is good to use after the opening week, as all titles are marked 25% off MSRP. I use online retailers whenever my local stores are out of stock for certain titles, which is rare considering the wide number of stores to choose from. The local stores can usually satisfy any mainstream and popular titles I buy, but I sometimes need to use the online retailers to find the rarer and low volume DVD titles that local stores don't stock. Whenever we get the rare online coupon, like the 20% off coupons from DeepDiscountDVD, those give me enough savings to make it worth buying certain titles online. Some online deals are too good to pass up, but for opening week releases, shopping at local stores is the way to go, especially since I live 5 miles within several stores.

I buy online when I can't find a title in store or if the price is right. For instance, in my area they don't seem to stock foreign films or Criterions when they are initially released. If they do happen to carry a particular film, they usually receive limited quantities. To save myself the hassle of tracking one down, I'll order online. I tend to buy big name new releases in store, since they are typically priced as loss leaders.

I no longer pre-order over the net for four reasons:
1. Sometimes I got them early, and sometimes late. When I buy them in store, at least I know exactly when I'm going to get it. 2. If there's something wrong with the disc, it's much easier to exchange in store than sending it back through the mail. 3. It's rarely cheaper over the net. Most stores, like Best Buy and Target, have the new releases for a very good price the first week, so there's usually nothing to be gained by ordering over the net. 4. I'm picky about the packaging on my DVDs. I get upset when they're banged up, or if the printing on the cover art is all screwy and not lined up with the spine correctly. Anal and petty, I know, but it matters to me. When I buy it in store, I can make sure I'm getting a copy that's to my liking. |
