hmmm.....as in WTF???

haha, but seriously. I like a lot of the movies they've put on there but I feel a lot of times they put some really pretentious stuff out. A lot of that i just don't like. But that's why you buy the movie for the movie and not just because it's from a collection. Although I am pretty giddy when a movie I like is getting a Criterion release.

This is the first movie they've put out in a while that I have absolutely no desire to own at all. But that's ok, they've got a pretty solid tracklisting. But still, this is exactly why I think it is ridiculous to just collect Criterions for the sake of collecting them. There's no way that anybody likes every single movie they've put out.

Not a film that espcially interests me, but I may rent some time down the road. A review of the DVD:

God's Holy Trousers, Mikado. Criterion released a lot of pretentious stuff you don't like and that made you go hmmmmm... or WTF? Wow, that sure is thread-worthy.

Has anyone ever told you that *you* may be prententious for not granting others their taste?

Have you even seen Maitresse, or are you just judging the movie by its cover and the foreign directors strange name?

Yeah the cover on that looks like something I wouldn't be interested in.

How old are you?
What are your 10 favorite films?
What other Criterion DVDs make you uneasy?
And have you ever heard of the expression "if you judge a book by its cover, you will never be a lover"?

What is this, the dating game?

By looking at that cover, I don't want to be that kind of lover.

I never said any Criterion movies made me uneasy, where did you get that from?

Well isn't it? I mean with information like "hmmmm" and "WTF" I tend to think somebody wants to fuck with me.

Maybe that's why Criterion released Armageddon. To try and remove some of the image that they only put out pretentious foreign movies. And that is probably the image they have outside of film buff circles.

I think it's moreso because they developed a relationship with the distributor and Michael Bay.

I assume we're all film buffs here, but maybe not the same kind of film buffs perhaps. For any that have an image of Criterion being "they only put out pretentious foreign movies", do they care to explain what makes thenm think this?

Our monthly Criterion debate sure did come early this month!
