Alias: Season 3

From DVDAnswers.com:

We've just received word that Alias: Season Three will be arriving in shops this September. The series, which stars Jennifer Garner will be available to own from the 7th September and should set you back somewhere in the region of $69.99. Again, each of the episodes should be presented in anamorphic widescreen along with Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. I'm afraid that we have no other details on the package at present, but we'll bring you more shortly. We also hope to have the official artwork in the very near future.

I was hoping that this would arrive before S4 got started. I've never seen the show but I have both S1 and S2 on DVD because I've heard so many good things about it. I was holding out watching them until S3 came out so I could go on a Alias marathon before the start of S4. Looks like I'll get my chance.

Wow, September is going to be one great and expensive month. Though nothing is officially confirmed it sounds like we'll be getting both the Star Wars Trilogy and the ROTK: EE that month. Also this and then 24: Season Three (the previous seasons came out in September so I figure this one will too).

I can't wait.

I can't wait for Alias, Star Wars and LOTR.

But honestly, I'm pretty cold on the third season of 24. I loved the first two, but this one isn't hitting me. Too bad.

Ah, that sucks. I decided to wait for the DVD release to see season three. I'll still buy it anyways but now my expectations will be lower, but I guess that's sort of a good thing.

Really?! ROTK: EE is coming out in September? Man, I must have missed something in my reading! That is so sweet!

Oh and ALIAS!!! Killer! Can not wait! Hopefully Smallville won't come out in September with those two or my bank account will go bust....sigh...

The Digital Bits is reporting that...

This is also supported by a recent Video Business article (in the Feb. 2 issue), in which New Line is said to have confirmed that the theatrical version of the film will be released in May, and that the extended edition would follow in September. According to recent interviews by director Peter Jackson, the longer version reportedly clocks in at 4 hours and 10 minutes. New Line also reportedly says they won't announce the title until after the Oscars at the end of this month.

Yeah, really. But I highly doubt we'll see Smallville in September, as, according to KryptonSite, Season Two is coming out around May. Four months would be an awfully quick turnaround to release the next season.

I couldn't wait for season 3 to hit DVD, so I downloaded the 12 episodes aired so far from bittorrent and watched them on my PC so that I can watch the rest of it as they come out. I missed the first two when they hit the air, and I won't do so again.

Oh, and as for s3 of 24, it didn't hit me right as well early on, but now it is driving on all cylinders, and I'm loving it. Sherry being back in the mix works wonders.

Season three of ALias has been great. The only bad thing is that ABC keeps dragging it out. They go weeks without showing a new episode and it's starting to piss me off. I can't wait to have the DVDs so I can watch them all in a row.

Yep. No new episodes from, when was it? November I think, until mid-January. We got two episodes then, and won't get another till Feb. 15th. Then after that there won't be another episode until March. But I think from then on it's about 8 episodes in 10 or 11 weeks.

SPOILER "24" SPACE:

Actually, having Sherry back is part of what I think is driving it down. It's just sort of boring now that Palmer is involved YET ANOTHER scandal to undermine his presidency, and that Sherry is back YET AGAIN trying to weedle her way back into his good graces. And YET AGAIN, Nina is back mucking things up in the terrorist sector. I mean, we saw all this the last two seasons. Now, the show's cast is far too large, even though some of them have far outlived their usefulness (Kim Bauer, for example, has been worthless since the middle of last season, as well as Sherry and Nina) and some of them just really shouldn't be there at all (Jack's assistant Chloe, and this silly baby storyline...)

I dunno. I'm enjoying it, sure. But just not as much as I did last year or the first season.

END "24" SPOILERS

FYI Brikar99 there is a '24' discussion thread here. Feel free to join the discussion, more views are always welcome.

On the Alias side, here's some more info from DVD Answers...

Quote:
Buena Vista Home Entertainment have sent over the final details on season three of Alias which stars Jennifer Garner. As we have already reported, this six disc package will be available to own from the 7th September and should set you back somewhere in the region of $69.99. Each of the included twenty-two episodes will be presented in anamorphic widescreen along with Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Extras will include a Burbank to Barcelona production design featurette, deleted scenes, a blooper reel, an inside look at the gadget lab where you can see Marshall Finkman's gadgets go from script to screen, audio commentaries (including one with the Biggest Alias fan who will be chosen in a national promotion) a script scanner and the Alias Diaries where you can meet the unsung craftsmen and technicians who bring the show to life. Still no artwork for this one I'm afraid, but we'll bring you that soon.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

As for "Alias" - the fan commentary sounds pretty funky. I can see that going very wrong, very easily. The commentaries with the cast on the previous sets were great, but the ones that were limited to the producers were fairly boring. What made the cast ones so great was that they'd make fun of each other and share funny anecdotes about shooting. At one point during, I think the season one finale, Victor Garber ("Jack Bristow") disappears, and the entire cast spends several moments going, "Where in the hell did Victor go? Did he leave?". Great stuff, along with Carl Lumbly ("Marcus Dixon") telling everyone to shut up because he wants to watch the episode.

I'm glad the widescreen transfers are continuing. For the life of me, I can't figure out why ABC doesn't air it that way. I caught part of an episode a while ago, and it looked bizarrely framed because of the full-screen. It wasn't as bad as an episode of "Angel" I watched recently on TNT that had been cropped to the point of being nearly unwatchable, but it definitely put me off. It's not like a pan'n'scan thing where someone chooses the most important part of the frame to show you. Instead, it was like they'd just zoomed in on the center, and what I was seeing was two characters at opposite ends of the screen who were cut in half, and background taking up most of the image. Yuck.

Here's a look at the artwork for season 3 (from DVDAnswers.com). It's looks cool to me. I like the blue tint to it and it matches the season 2 artwork scheme.

Ya know, I was really looking forward to Season 3, but I've kept up with every episode up to date, and season 3 has really been a huge let down and petered down to a sputter.

First off, Gardner is REALLY looking haggard this season. The hottie of season 1 and 2 has been turned into a plain Jane office co-worker who never wears make up. Thankfully, she has been replaced by Lauren Reed, a British blonde hottie.

That is no reason to say this season sucks, but these are:

- The Covenant has no visible agenda. They just steal random shit, have it either taken before they get to it/forged and given a bogus gift, or in the 33% (I think statistically, they get 1/3rd of all stuff they try to get) chance they DO get it, they don't do anything with it. They bust their ass to get supermegahyperweapon #1, they finally get it, and it's like "Oh well. The CIA lost. Next episode where we completely forget about what just happened". Fuck that. At least seasons 1 and 2 had a goal: The completion of the Rambaldi device. Everything they did could somehow be rationalized to that. Not anymore.

- Both the CIA and Covenant use their highest ranking operatives all the time on all missions.
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Am I to seriously believe that even though Sark is now the leader of the North American Covenant cell he still can't hire any fucking goons to run his errands for him? What kind of multi-billion dollar uber terrorist organization runs with a staff of maybe a dozen people?
Same can be said with Jack, Sydney, Vaughn, etc. Personally, I think they need to start introducing some new characters so it can be a little more believable. Plus maybe they can fix this next problem...

- No one important even gets close to dying. You remove the drama element when there is no threat. How can we worry about the CIA failing when you know the two invunerable super agents Vaughn and Bristow with their Superman titanium skin are on the job?

- Sloane is flat out uninteresting. He was bar none the most intriguing and interesting character of the entire series. He's now left to a cameo appearance at best. You can argue that maybe there will be some major plot twist that makes it all copesetic, but right now, that plot twist is 5 episodes too late.

- The CIA wins too much. I mean, in all honesty, how big of a threat can the Covenant be if Marshall high on crack can still outwit them every single time they try something?

So ummm, yeah. Probably a few more episodes left in this season, but unless something magical happens, my Alias collection ends at Season 2.

I think it'll all come to a head in the season finale, and blow into season 4. Have patience. Don't forget that JJ Abrams was forced to dump SD-6 early, so there's still plenty more setup going down that was supposed to be simultaneous with SD-6

Looking at that cover-art...I've got only one thing to say:

On a related note, anyone notice the lack of promotion for the show by ABC?

Honestly did you expect something different?

And noticing the low advertising on ABC would require them to have another show worth watching
