The film with longest fight?

I am trying to find a classic which has a fight at the end that goes through the whole town! Through shops and stuff...they made a Simpson episode with that fight. The one where both Homer and Bart get a bigger brother..
Is it a Mel Brooks film? Blazing sadles? Can't remember! Can you help me out...

That would be "Blazing Saddles" indeed...and it's on DVD.

Just to be picky...

I believe the longest fight in a film would have to be Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David beating the bejesus out of each other for what felt like hours in They Live

But that's not really what you were asking... Was it?

ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN, with Clint Eastwood, perhaps? The final brawl between Clint and Big Bill Smith goes down the street, through buildings, into a restaurant, etc., with the whole town cheering along and following the combatants. Still, not a very likely point of reference for THE SIMPSONS, so that's just a guess.

I'll take five, sir.

Just think, if Peter Jackson directed They Live, we'd have the They Live: Extended Edition DVDs right now with 37 minutes of new footage ...

... and all of it would be in the fight.

And imagine the glorious Rowdy Roddy Piper / Keith David audio commentary.

Longest fight? Go East, young man

That would be any Shaw Brothers Kung-Fu flick from the 70s/80s. Jesus, some of those movie are non-stop ass kicking.

I can't remember the name of my entry to this thread, and my noodle is too fried to recall salient details, but try this fight on for size (quoted for optimal "Stoy-tellin' Effect").

Quote:
The EVIL MANCHU ARMY is devastating the pastoral Chinese countryside, village-by-village. This is inter cut with an elderly man meditating in his hut on a hill.

That is the first 15 minutes of the movie.

Then the EVIL MANCHU ARMY approaches the village with the elderly man. BIG mistake. His eyes snap open (SHOCK ZOOM!). He stands on the hill, the EVIL MANCHU ARMY below.

The elderly man rips his shirt open and reveals pecs that would make Arnie envious. He screams (overdoubed by the finest HK UK expat VO talent): "BRING IT ON!!!"

He then does a flying flip into the midst of the EVIL MANCHU ARMY, and, for what felt like 60 minutes or so, proceeds to kill all 5000 of them.

At one point, he actually jumps up from the midst of the fray with like a dozen spears sticking out of him, only to pull them out and bitch slap the EVIL MANCHU ARMY with them.
Fucking brilliant stuff. Though I am quite certain my memory has been kind to that movie, I DO remember being quite impressed with the fact it essentially contained those two elements... evil army, bad ass old guy killing evil army... and not a damn thing more.

(ps... I caught this on KTLA-5 kung fu theatre in the late 80s... if you are from SoCal, you may remember that crazy used-car guy who showed wacky animals in his commercials and bought tons of late-nite air time just to run Shaw Brothers / 70s Fu flicks between his ads... if someone remembers this movie I described above, let me know WTF it's called!)

If we're not just limiting ourselves to fist fights, then the showdown at the house of Blue Leaves in Kill Bill Volume One has got to be up there.

As does the Hospital shootout at the end of Hard Boiled.

Reid! It's good to have you back, buddy! The 'File was a far less interesting place without you.

All right, so BBJ and Ried on board. To the rest of you, I repeat: Kung-Fu Flicks put ANY Western movie's fight scenes TO SHAME. I mean, here you have an entire genre that is devoted to interesting ways of kicking people's asses. There are whole story lines that revolve around nothing more than a guy striving to learn the "Iron Fist Technique." And then, once he learns it, the sequel happens... whereupon he uses the "Iron Fist Technique" on every one he meets.

Let me put an entry into this thread that I actually know the title of: 7 Grand Masters.

In this little gem, the elderly local kung fu master desires to retire as the Grand Master of all of China, so he must go to each of China's 7 provinces to defeat THEIR grand masters. Now this movie is 90 minutes long. Take away the 5 minutes of set-up, and 15 minutes of so of the wacky comedy hijacks that gets him from fight to fight... and that leaves you with 70 minutes or so of pure ass-kicking... or about 10 minutes a fight.

I mean, look at the back of the box, for Christ's sake! You don't see these guys sippin' tea... you see 'em kicking ass, damn it!

I did I mention the guy is supposed to be like 70 years old?

Now that is worth every penny of your rental dollar: 70 year old guys laying the drunken-monkey technique slap down on dudes for no other reason than to be Grand Master.

QUALITY entertainment, folks.

Listen to Blackbelt and Ried, they know what they're talking about. Not only are the fights more plentiful, they have better choreography, skilled performers, and a bunch of cool grunts and whooshes to bring the whole thing together. Shaw Brothers kung-fu is where it's at.

I hope someone can identify the movie from Blackbelt's first post. I have to see it.

Make that 8!

They Live was the first movie to come to my mind too. It's funny that so many other people here were thinking of it too. It really is a very long fight scene, and a great one at that. They Live is still a very cool movie to watch despite its age. I wish they would release a SE of it. I certainly would pick it up!
