Memento Limited Edition

Question is should I blow around $20 for this DVD, buy it on ebay for a bit cheaper possibly, or just buy the original release for $9.99 at Target?

Depends on how big of a fan you are of this movie. I think the cool menu design, added features, and packaging make the special edition well worth it. Just buy it in the store because a lot of little things are included in the packaging that some people may not include when buying it from eBay.

I'd get the limited edition just for the fact that it has the chronological version easter egg on it.

Of course I have the limited edition and have never watched the chronological verison.

Get the Limited Edition because of the extras, DTS, and better transfer from the previous release.

Ditto. I see no reason to watch it that way though.

Get the Limited Edition...as it's been pointed out, both the sound and transfer are much better. Now if only navigating the extras wasn't the biggest pain in the ass ever

Yeah, if you have the time and patience, get the Limited Edition.

And I thought it was great fun to watch it chronologically, if only to see how well it worked that way.

For those that have the LE and need help navigating the menus:

http://world.std.com/~trystero/Memento_LE.html

Very easy-to-follow instructions on how to get to every possible feature on the second disc.

The LE is defenetly the way to go, not only for the better picture and the DTS, but also for the great commentary and extras,

but most importantly for the "chronological edit" of the film, it alows you to watch the film in the actual order of events - its not as great as the backwards way the film actually is, but its defenetly something that fans should watch at least once

infact, i payed 33 bucks for the LE - its one of my favourite DVD's (yes it was expensive, but i had to have it)

LE is definitely the way to go. It also has the coolest packaging, just don't lose the paperclip. The chronological cut is good for hardcore fans (like myself, in fact I might watch this tonight)

Get the LE: better transfer, good commentary and "Anatomy of a Scene".

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and have decided it's my least favorite DVD packaging yet. It's just such a pain to have to yank the portion containing the discs out of the slipcase. I worry every time that I'm going to damage it somehow.

I printed off the menu guide that Rossi46 linked to and it's very handy. Definitely recommended.

And it worked horribly. I suppose it should have been obvious to me though.

Well, one of the biggest complaints I've heard from contrarian critics is that 'Memento' wouldn't work if it were presented chronologically. Which is, to me, immaterial, the same as saying that somehow... oh, 'Die Hard' is a failure because it wouldn't work non-chronologically. Movies are scripted and shot to ratchet up the tension and make revelations with regards to their own sequencing, and shouldn't necessarily have to work in a sequence that the director didn't intend. It's like criticizing 'Once Upon A Time In America' based on the shitty rearranged Americanized version, or 'The Godfather Saga', which organizes the films chronologically and thus loses Part II's subtle parallels between Michael and Vito. It's interesting to watch, sure, but should in no way detract from the original movie simply because it doesn't work as well.

Let me put it this way.

If you don't buy the LE and love the film, you'll be kicking yourself for throwing away $10.

The Memento LE is so great the extras and packaging alone is worth the price of admission.

The only way I wouldn't buy the LE is if you hate the movie (but then why would you buy the movie in any DVD form? ) or if you are dirt poor (Why are you buying DVDs instead of the rent? )

I'm not in any way knocking the movie. I was simply saying Memento was filmed and cut for the sequence presented in the theatrical release. To put those scenes in chronological order after everything has been fit to the non-chronological sequence would likely not work as well, or not at all.

It was interesting, sure. The "monologue" (phone in the hotel) scenes hold up somewhat but once we move into the "action" scenes, things fall apart. That's about when I turned it off and watched the theatrical cut again.

Still, it's a great movie and the LE is impressive.

It's also great to use the memory and indexing features on my dvd-player to program Pulp Fiction to play in chronological order. Definitely an interesting thing to watch. FYI: "Zed's Dead" is the last line in the film then...

The special edition is more than worth the $20. Pick it up immediately!

The way the LD disc is formatted almost puts you into lenny's shoes. Just trying to navagate around the extras or just trying to remember how to get the movie to play is like a memory test if you haven't done it in a couple of months. It's like I have to have the directions tattoed on my rear otherwise I have to spend ten minutes trying to relearn the menue board. Personally I would always pick DTS sound over anything out there but the sound design in the movie is low key ( it's not an action movie) so personally having picked up both disc I would go for the cheaper one unless your a die hard fan and enjoy rewatching it often.

hold on, so the $10 version of this film, not the LE is in correct normal order? I may have to rent that, but I'm sure I will prefer the LE more

The $10 DVD and the LE both contain the same movie. The LE on the otherhand contains a chronilogical version on disc 2 for true fans to check out.

The LE is by far worth the money, I love the packaging even tho it is a bit of a hassle. The same goes for the menus, its all worth it to give this gem of a movie truly great DVD presentation. Also the video and DTS track on the LE are worth the extra $10 alone.

Agreed, while neat to look at it's really hard to get the discs out of the case......and do I really want loose pieces of paper inside the case too?

I know why they are there, but they're really annoying.
