Circuit City - Full Frame Only???

I went to Circuit City today (New Port Richey Location, Tampa Bay Area Florida) and they had a nice little paper hanging... It said something like:

"Ad Correction:
This weeks ad stated we had Widescreen versions of the movies Dickie Roberts Child Star and Matchstick Men. In fact, we are only carrying Full Screen versions at this store. We are sorry for the inconciencance."

I looked around (despite my indifferance) and sure enough they had NO copies in Widescreen of either film. Please tell me this is a one time deal... shipment error? Or is CC doing away with our favourite aspect ratio?

All the widescreen were probably sold right away and whoever you talked to was probably not very informed.

That's interesting.

The Curcuit City around here is usualy pretty fair with their FS and WS distribution.

On the other hand, the Walmart here is a little more notorious for making the FS versions much much easier to find.

Circuit City tried to give me DIVX, I shall never support a company that thought that was a good idea.

I've hated Circuit City from way back. Shit customer service, poor selection, and they usually run out of sale items too quickly. That, and who really needs a three yard long receipt for one purchase? Fuck 'em! The only good they are to me is in using their ads to price match with.

Ditto on the crappy customer service!

Every time I go in to CC, which is rarely, it seems either I am invisible, or everyone goes on coffee break. Apparently I have to knock something over and break it or rant like an idiot to get any kind of service from anyone, or just pull cash out of my wallet and wave it over my head.

My Circuit City is pretty nice. Fair customer service, as much WS as FS (if not more), and overall good selection. Then again, it is almost brand new.

Most likely their distributor screwed up and only sent them the FS versions or was short on the WS version. Or the person placing the orders wasn't paying attention.

When Jurassiac Park III came out, Costco only had the FS version. They normally carry both and continue to do so.

My CC is way nicer than our BB here. They generally have a lot of widescreen and very few full screen copies. But at least on the new releases, they have two different spots, one for WS and one for FS and lots of copies below in case the ones on the shelf run out. The service is also way better at CC in my town too, just got lucky or maybe our BB just sucks.

When I worked at CC, they seemed to have a good mix of Full & Wide Screen releases. But now that I've found a Best Buy that's not in New Hampshire, I shop there a lot more often.

Circuit City is where I buy most of my DVDs since they are the closest to me and have the best prices normally.

Don't worry about them being full frame only, it must be just a fluke. At my store, they have a display up in the DVD section explaining the difference between wide and full screen.

Plus, with all the widescreen TV's they are selling, they aren't THAT stupid.

Yeah last week when I went to buy dickie roberst, all they had was fullscreen. I asked the guy and he said that is all they got so it must be a distribution problem or something. I just went to walmart and got it cheaper anyway.

That's what you get for trying to buy Matchstick Men and Dickie Roberts.

But anyway, Circuit City has been doing really poor business and has been scaling back the past 2-3 years since Best Buy has whomped them badly. What Best Buy gets 40 of in stock, they get 5. So I wouldn't be surprised if this is just them realizing there is no point storing hundreds of DVDs that won't shift units because their competition is winning.

That isn't true with all Circuit Cities. Mine gets a lot of new releases. The prices are the same or less than Best Buy.

At least where I live, we have two Circuit Cities and only one Best Buy. So, Best Buy isn't winning.

This is the kind of feedback I was looking for... I can't imagine it was a shipping error if another CC did the same thing. What's everyone else's CC's got in stock?

i have to weigh in on this because ive had similar experiences with circuit city

my circuit city=crappy customer help

and divx=one of the worst ideas ever (thank god it failed miserably)

a few months ago we got a best buy and i instantly started buying my dvds there because of this exact problem.

before, id go to circuit city, grab the new dvd i wanted and halfway to register realize that it was full frame. Going back to the dvds id notice that EVERY new copy of the movie was in full frame.

I thought maybe they had sold all the widescreens, so the next tuesday i went when they opened and guess what....EVERY copy was full frame

this happened again and again every tuesday with a good 50% of the movies i tried to get no matter what time of day i went. Employees help was a joke. The only logical conclusion i can come to is they put all the full frames out first in the hope ppl will buy them up or buy them accidentally since full frame doesnt sell as much as widescreen (or at least at mine it doesnt, full frame copies left on shelves compared to widescreen is about 3 times as much)
