On The Waterfront (OAR?) WIDESCREEN?

On the TCM channel, this movie is being shown in WIDESCREEN. On the DVD it's in FULL FRAME? Which aspect ratio is correct?

Thanks.

IMDb lists the original aspect ratio as 1.37:1, but you're right, it is showing on TCM right now in widescreen. It doesn't appear to be cropped in any way so I'm guessing that TCM has it right. They always broadcast their films in the original aspect ratio. I wish I had the DVD to do a comparison, but I never picked it up again after selling my AFI 100 collection.

When ever I've seen this in the theatre it was always presented 1.85. I think it was shot full frame because the TV prints have way too much headroom and you can often see mics and booms in the top of the frame.
