Your hardest to find DVD?

Hello! I'm new to the board. I thought I'd start off with a topic of my own. Hopefully it hasn't been discussed to much in the past...but here we go:

What DVD in your collection was the hardest to find and how did you eventually end up finding it?

Thanks!

Currently the new release of Hamlet with Mel Gibson...Can't find it at K-mart, best buy, or Wal Mart. Before that it was the Ultimate Vacation set.
Other than that I normally find stuff pretty easily either at walmart or Best Buy

There are a lot of out of print titles that are very hard to find now, but a few of them that I have are:

Hard Boiled: CC - got on eBay
Ed Wood - eBay

And these I bought the week they were released, but they are now hard to find:

MST3K: The Movie
Sid and Nancy: CC
Robocop: CC
Dead Ringers: CC
Silence of The Lambs: CC
The Unbearable Lightness Of Being: CC
The Nine Disney Limited Editions
Tremors: Collectors Edition

I can't think of anymore right now

for me it was The Exorcist 25th Anniversery edition

I had put it off for various reasons, then finally was ready to pick up a copy, nobody (Best Buy, Circuit City, Coconuts, etc) had it

I found a copy at a Tower Records/video...which is about a 30 min drive from me

I searched for weeks to find the two-disc version of The Bridge On The River Kwai. No place had it, despite having a good six solid DVD outlets within 15 minutes of my house (Best Buy, Suncoast Video, Circuit City, two Targets, and a Wal-Mart). Searched twice a week every week for two months ... and nobody ever had it, got it in, etc. I finally just ordered the damn thing online. (I was really set on buying it and taking it home the same day, you see)

"Air Force One" and the Criterion editions of "Robocop" and "Armageddon".

NOTE: "Armageddon" was a gift for my girlfriend, it's one of her favorite movies.

If you had ordered it online right away, it wouldn't have taken two months.

I guess that would be Last Night which is one of the best relatively unheard of end-of-the-world movies ever.

I couldn't find it anywhere for the longest time, but finally found a copy in some online store in Canada, but they wouldn't ship to the US. I ordered it anyways, and had it shipped to a friend in Toronto, who then shipped it to me. Well worth the effort though.

Ed Wood for sure. I got lucky and bought a copy at cost from someone on another forum. I found it right after I quit looking for it.

Great initial topic, uaeb.

The most difficult one I have found is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - The Criterion Collection which I love.
The one I'm still looking for, and beating myself up over because I didn't pick it up when it first came out, is The Rocky Horror Picture Show - 25th Anniversary Edition. I kept on passing it up during many Best Buy runs, and then when I finally decided to get it noone had it in stock.

DVD's That were hard to find in brick and mortar stores.

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas(Criterion) Could not find in B&M had to resort too online.

The People vs. Larry Flint "Special Edition" (Widescreen) I could not find one copy at any brick & mortar shops, and all my trusted online locations listed the special edition as 1.33:1. I gave up looking, but I finally found a copy at my local Best Buy 6 months after release. Is their really a pan & scan version avaliable?

I dound 3 ED WOODS on a trip to 3 stores. Not much of a hunt right? I have been to 2 Best Buy's, 2 Targets, 3 FYE's, 2 Suncoasts, Saturday Matinee, KMart, Borders, 2 Barnes & Noble's, Sam Goody, & a Musicland all in search of CHAPPELLE'S SHOW. Still have found nothing. Not one place had a copy. I hope BB gets it in for my SCHOOL OF ROCK purchase. Somebody's gotta have it right??

The hardest for me was "Apollo 13 collectors edition", i looked at several stores in my town as well as online, and i could never find it (everyone had the DTS version, but not the collectors edition)

I finally found it at a futureshop for $25 bucks in another town when i was visiting friends, and it wasn't in great supply, in fact there was only one, and it was hidden in with the Animie films

I must have gone to close to a dozen stores before I finally found a copy of Blow Up, all the stores had it listed on there shop computer, but none had actually got copies at their store.

The Battlestar Galactica collection. Some of the places stopped carrying it, including Best Buy. Found it at Circuit City after thinking I was gonna hafta order it.

Video Essentials also. I haven't seen it in the stores, though I got it for free.

Ed Wood - Found one at Wal Mart at price. Last one I saw on the shelf too.

I had the Romper Stomper 2-Disc, and then (like an idiot) I resold it for like $10.

I thought the DTS version was also a Collectors Edition. Anyway...the DTS is supposed to have freakin' amazing sound...it was one of the top sounding DVDs for years.

Sense and Sensability was another disc that I found difficult to locate and when I did it was 40 buck CAN which was unacceptable, then it just got rereleased for 17.99 so baddabingbaddaboom...Amazon.ca to my door.

My hardest to find DVD was Logan's Run.

It fell behind my bookcase and I was trying to find it for months. Thankfully, a Chris Ware book fell behind and I found the movie whilst fetching the book.

That was certainly my hardest to find DVD...

My copy of Legends Of Hockey was very hard to track down, and that was a few years ago. Not that most people even care about hockey.

I usually avoid issues like this by ordering online. There have been a few exceptions.

"Red Desert" was always out of stock or OOP online (and selling for an outrageous price). One day I saw it in Borders for $11. Needless to say, I had to buy it.

Once Upon a Time in the West has also been tricky. I tried ordering it from DDD, but after 6 weeks they cancelled my order. Netflix never has it available to rent. I tried looking around in stores before Christmas and no luck. I haven't tried for a while, but I'll see it eventually.

My Unbearable Lightness of Being DVD was very hard to track down. It got stuck under the seat of my car and was out there for a week or two.

I would have to say Gettysburg. I wanted to watch it before I watched God's and Generals. Then I found out it was OOP. But then just recently I had seen on this board that it was back in print. So I've gone everywhere looking for it and didn't see it anywhere. I finally saw it at FYE for 19.99 and I thought well I can find it cheaper if I wait awhile and check at Best Buy. Well I kept checking back and checking back ....they still didn't have it. So then I go to Media Play and the guy says they don't have any and that I couldn't order it because there were none in the warehouse. So then I went and picked up the last copy at FYE.

oh and our Best Buy has like 20+ criterion editions of Fear and Loathing, the last time I was in there.
