Are you referring to the film that was nominated for "Best Foreign Film" last year and that those bozos at Miramax are just sitting on and not releasing her in the States?

If so, then Yes I have seen it and it's fantastic, well worth picking up.

There's already a thread for this.

And one in film class (heavy spoilers in this one).

I wish they'd release it...I'm holding out for the R1 release because I don't have a region-free player (yet).

This 'gold cover' version... Is the quality good?? Are the extra features subtitled? Is there a better all region (region 0) version?

DVDReview
Doesn't say in the review, but I believe the recording bit rate is the same as Superbit titles.

No.

No. There is a DVD-5 version that came out first, but then they came out with the better DVD-9 version which is the gold cover.

There is a R3 version (Edko HK) which is better than the R0 release because of the inclusion of English text at the start - the R0 Chinese version does not have the English text. Also the R0 Chinese version has Chinese menus instead of English menus, so it can be more difficult to understand. Why not invest in a multi-region player?
Edko seems to be good with their special editions - They've released a special edition of "The Classic" which I've purchased...

I've gotten so tired of waiting for it to come out in North American that I bought an R0 dvd off ebay. I don't know WHY Miramax is waiting so long to release it... it's now been delayed again apparently, to June. By delaying it constantly, Miramax isn't gaining anything.. it would've done a lot better business had they released it shortly after its Oscar nomination. I guarantee had it won, it would've been out along time ago.. darn Miramax....

MiramAxe isn't known for doing SE's of its Asian movies so the R0 is probably better than anything they'll put out. Besides, you know MiramAxe will dub it and change the soundtrack like they always do.

I thought that this was some of Geena Davis' best work. And Andy Garcia certainly made quite a transformation in his role as homeless, war hero, con-man, saint. Dustin Hoffman did too much of a spin on his Ratso Rizzo character from Midnight Cowboy and really just walked through the picture for the paycheck. And how about that Chevy Chase cameo? It was like his and Davis' Fletch characters many years later.

Wait, we are talking about the domestic gem Hero, right?

Yes, thank you...I guess I should have been more specific.

But thanks Everyone else...now I'm interested in this other film.
