there is the theatrical release on video, with Harrison Fords narration left in.(in a white box)
the 'director's cut' on video (which wasnt really a directors cut, more of an extended cut, which had Harrison's narration taken out.(in a black box) and the 'director's cut' on DVD.(black box) ***WARNING MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT!*** i bought the 'DC' dvd, not having seen the film since i was about 8 and i thought it was an ok movie, i barely got that Deckard was a replicant. a couple weeks later i went out and rented the original release with Deckard's narration left in and all the pieces fell together for me. Now i think the Deckard was definately a replicant who had been created specifically to track down the runaway 'skin-jobs'. there are tons of hints in his narration that point to this. i would have to see the film again to know the exact lines that hinted at it. even though Harrison Ford did a pretty bad acting job narration the film i think it still adds to the movie and makes more sense. alot of people say that cutting the 'uplifting' ending in the directors cut was a good move, but i think that ending is even more depressing than the one where it ends with them getting on the elevator. in the elevator ending, Deckard knows that the assassin let them live, but the woman will die soon anyway. but in the original ending it says that she will have a longer lifespan, however since Deckard is a replicant he may only have months to live, and he has absoultly no idea. |

One. The box you linked to has been out for some time. The content on the disc itself is identical to the original release. It's simply packaged with a lot of promotional items and comes in a big box. But the film itself is the same director's cut on the regular release, and there are no other special features on the disc itself.
There is a special edition DVD in the works, but it won't be coming for some time, as Scott is re-editing the film. |
