What features would you like to see in future DVDs?
A few DVDs have been released that have either used new features not used before on DVD, or have expanded or enhanced regular features.
The BBC documentary "Walking With Dinosaurs" used a kind of "picture-in-picture" commentary that I really liked. Ghostbusters used the video commentary (MST3000-style), and Men In Black expaned on that with the "electronic chalkboard" used by Barry Sonnenfeld during the commentary. Are there other features that you guys have dreamed up or seen in only a few select DVDs that you would like to see used more often? I'm an MST fan, so I like the video commentaries. I would also like to see more text commentaries, like the one used on The Abyss. Any ideas? Sam |

I guess it depends on your interest in film. Maybe it's just you like movies or maybe you really want to make them. But, I think running dailies can sometimes be interesting (but usualy very boring). I really like creativity of the MIB disc. But mainly the commentaries by the filmmakers as well as "behind the scenes" footage always seems to be the best (all those "links to the webs" I have never tried once). I still find Rodriguez's El Mariachi one of the best discs simply because he spoke to the filmmaker and didn't miss a beat.
But, the films I'd like to see make it to DVD soon are: Big Wednesday, Bad Day At Black Rock, Ed Wood, At Close Range, Magnificent Seven and Lonely Are The Brave. At the rate DVDs are gaining in popularity, I can imagine they will be too. |
