Walking with dinosaurs 1 disc DVD-18 version?

Guys, anybody knows if Walking with Dinosaurs is scheduled to be re-released with 1 disc and not a 2 disc set. I heard lately that they are changing distributors.

By-the-way, the DVD probably has the best video quality I have yet seen. Too bad it does not have a DTS or DD 5.1 tracks, Dinos can use a lot of LFE channel. For video, to show off your widescreen TV, this is the perfect disc.

As far as I know, there are no plans to make a DVD-18 version of the documentary. Quite frankly, I don't see why they would. DVD-18s are notoriously harder to make (partly because very few authoring facitlities can make DVD-18s and also because the disc used has to pass quality checks on BOTH sides.) and a DVD like "Walking with Dinosaurs" has a limited appeal.

You're so right! At the risk of giving away my real age... I remember very well how the earth trembled at the Dinos' heavy-footed approach - much louder than your average galloping rhinoceros, or Indian or African elephant-on-the-run...

Yes, dinosaurs are not popular. That's why Jurassic Park was such a big box-office failure.

TampaFlyer, there's a big difference between a movie about dinosaurs and a documentary about dinosaurs. Think about it.

Hey, you said it! I don't know who replicates in in the US, but I know for a FACT that Electric Switch (the authoring facility) have no replication facilities, which would make it a little tricky for them to manufacture them! ;P ... it's the stability at replication stage (my company handles replication of this disc, cool!) that's the problem, and even though we can do them I don't think they're planning an 18 either in Europe or USA.
This is as far as my knowledge goes of course, and I'm not in Sales.

Hey, it's nice to see someone in the business on these boards (and also nice to know that someone out there can back up my lie---er, I mean back up my claims).

Well, you know...
One does try!
Although I pick things up from the Project Management team, the only discs I have direct input on are the in house "Package Deals" - authoring & replication together. When it's a pure replication job it tends to go straight by Pre-Mastering because... it's been Pre-Mstered some place else!
Switch are a good place, they use highly intimidating and complex authoring kit (hehe... Ok so Spruce & Sonic have been spoiling us. We don't like to mention how easy it's getting to author DVDs!) and Dinosaurs is one of theirs...

I just sit in my den knocking out those Hungarian discs you know and love...

OK, since we are into authoring, anybody knows of nice authoring software packages for the PC, ie: home videos. I know of Sonic DVDit! but nothing else.

Some of the features I am looking for:

Pan & Scan to convert 4:3 to 16:9
Ability to use existing VOB files
Write to CD-RW for testing (maybe for small size media (10-15 mts).

I'm not sure how much it costs, but Spruce do some cheap packages, they also have a DVDonCD function that lets you burn off onto CDR. http://www.sprucetechnologies.com
