Kolchak Returns from MGM, Midnite Movies Coming!

From DVDDrive-In.com:

Quote:
According to a recent news item from The Digital Bits, this August MGM will release a double feature DVD of THE NIGHT STALKER and THE NIGHT STRANGLER. These two horror TV movies starring Darren McGavin as reporter Karl Kolchak, were previously available on a disc from Anchor Bay, but now long out-of-print. Unlike the AB release, the MGM one is rumored to include extras. Rest assured, MGM will also be releasing a batch of "Midnite Movies" in August, and those titles will be announced in the coming weeks!

I loved this show. I would watch it in my PJs as a little one. Held up nicely when I saw it years later on Sci-Fi channel.

Larphillips! You had an avatar facelift. What happened?

That's great news!

I remember watching The Night Stalker as a kid, and it never failed to creep me out.

I just picked this up at Best Buy for $9.99! I bought this mainly because it was Chris Carter's inspriation for the X-Files. Interestingly Darren McGavin plays Arthur Dales on the X-Files, the first FBI agent to work on the XFiles before Mulder took over. I started reading more about the two movies and the tv series and it sounds fantastic! I can't wait to pop the disc in.

I have fond memories of watching the telefilms (and series) in reruns as a wee bairn in Saskatoon (Man, the Prince Albert CBC affiliate had the best reruns!). I picked up the old Anchor Bay disc a few years ago and watch it every once and awhile. Both films are spooky and funny--McGavin and Simon Oakland are a hoot when they share scenes together! Hopefully Universal will see fit to release Kolchak the Night Stalker in the near future.
