The Godfather re-release

Quote:
"We have had confirmation that Paramount plan to re-release Francis Ford Coppola's classic The Godfather in May. Previously only available in The Godfather Trilogy box set, this release will be virtually identical in content to the box set's first disc, including the Coppola commentary track.

The only major difference that this single disc release will have over the box set, is that the transfer for The Godfather has been digitally enhanced by a team at Lowry Digital Images, the very same guys responsible for the outstanding Indiana Jones DVD transfers released last year."

God Damn You Hollywood!
Mother fucking doubledip inducing assholes, FUCK!

The only thing I didn't like about the box set was the transfers, they seemed like someone went nuts with the edge enhancement. If the new one looks as good as the Indy set, then I'm to much a fan of the film not to have the highest picture quality available.

I remember hearing after that that the restoration was cancelled and that the single disc version was going to be the same exact transfer as the box set version. I'm trying to find where that was reported.

Just found it.

This single disc release will be available to own from the 11th May this year. We should also point out that Paramount will no longer be updating the transfer on this one. We had originally heard that the folks at Lowry Digital Images would be cleaning up the transfer, although that will no longer be the case.
Thats from DVDAnswers, here is the link:

Wasn't really sure I wanted to double dip and after reading about the cancelled restoration. I know I won't my boxset works fine for me, hopefully the only time this will come up again is if HD-DVD lasts long enough for me to upgrade.

So now there is absolutely no reason to double dip if I already have the boxset right?

I was hoping they would put the original soundtrack on this release. Last I heard they didn't, so I'm another pass for me.

Well, I didn't really wanna put out $70 for the whole set.. so I am very glad they've decided to release it as a single disc! I hope they do the same with Part II as well. Does anybody know if they are?

I was just at Best Buy and it looked as though there had been a price drop on the Godfather box set... I can't recall the exact price, but it was far less than $70.

He was talking in wonky Canadian dollars. $70 Cndn equals about $50 US.

We need some Goodfellas threads up in this Hizzy...

Seriously, I've seen the Godfather trilogy box for $45 or so at Sam's Club, and since these new releases are the same discs without the bonus stuff, you really should just get that... unless having Part 3 in your collection would cause you mental duress, in which case a damn Liberal like me would say SUE! SUE!!

But I would be mocking you! Hah!
