A review on DVDAuthority says of the video:

Quote:
“The Grapes of Wrath” shows signs of age. The film was made before a better film stock could be used and more likely than not, the original negative was used so many times that it became worthless. That being said, Fox delayed this release to get the best possible picture. I’m pleased to say that they have succeeded and though it’s not a shining example of DVD, it’s a testament to how good movies can look that have looked awful before. The full-frame transfer has been digitally restored and there’s even a great featurette on how it was done and comparisons to the earlier version. Compared to its predecessor, the cleaned up transfer looks like someone has cleaned off a window. That is to say that everything looks sharper, clearer and in a more refined detail than before. The scratches have been digitally removed and the black levels evened out a bit for consistency. While errors exist (as they will on most any movie of this age), the good far outweighs the bad and Fox should be commended for their efforts here.

$10

Fox Studio Classics has so far a great track record.
Are you really worried about 'wasting' $10 on Grapes
for shoddy quality?

The picture quality is excellent for a film of this age. I rate all my discs after I watch them. Although I think the film itself is overrated (I rated it 3 out of 5), I gave the disc a 4.5. ANd an incredible bargain to boot.

I have this and it is simply a great movie which will never look better than this.

Fox have done a great job considering the age and condition of the original neg, and while it is not as clean as, say, Sunset Boulevard, it is a lot better than anything you've seen on TV of this film.

And BTW: the extras far outweigh any shortcomings the print may exhibit, and for a $10, this really is a great bargain.
