Gotta have the Deluxe. Sold (real cheap) the original to my nephew. I figured that with the good price I have it coming for from DVD Empire + the Movie Cash I couldn't pass it up.

I sold my old disc in anticipation of this... which one I'm getting VASTLY depends on reviews. If the 3-Disc version's transfer is as lame as last time, I'll get the Superbit...

I won't be buying this again. Although if I sell off the current disc, I'd be interested maybe in the superbit.

I bought the gift set the first time around, and that's what I'm sticking with. Not enough new content for a double dip.

isn't the Superbit supposed to have an 'exclusive'
Tobey Macguire commentary so people will triple-dip?
that's what i heard on digitalbits a while ago.

I hate the most obvious "movie mistakes" at the end of the movie, where Kirsten Dunst's hand is not at the same spot... Sam Raimi should have shot that scene in one take without re-editing and cutting it with all those movie mistakes

Superbit definitly, I love DTS. Plus I realised recently, that I've never gone back to any disc in my collection(1,041 today) and reviewed the features, I watch them once, and thats that. So I'll just rent the 3 disc from Movie Trading co., and buy the SB(selling the original of course).

I triple-dipped

-'Limited' Gift Set
-Deluxe Edition
-Superbit

Swapped the Deluxe bonus disc case for a slim 2-discer so now all four discs fit in the slip case, and the slip case fits in the gift box.

God, I'm pathetic...

Manabyte former reviewer of the IGN DVD.com site (but still contributes here and there when he can) will have a review up tomorrow of the 2 new DVD's. He will also have side by side screen shots comparison to show the improvement (if any) in picture quality as well. So far he said he wont post a new review of th Deluxe edition because it is the essentially the same original 2-disc set release with another fluff disc to promote the new movie. But will do one for the SuperBit disc because of the Tobey commentary

Well, 2 more releases, and they're still pretending that the teaser trailer doesn't exist.

Still holding onto my Movie FX Magazine DVD...

The only way I'd buy it again is if it had the original teaser in its entirety. Since it doesn't, I'll stick to the original release.

Well, I'm not buying either because I don't really like the movie, but personally I'd go for the Superbit. DTS and better picture are more important to me than 50,000 featurettes.

I picked up the Superbit today. I was going to wait and see if the 3-Disc had an improved image, but when I was at Best Buy for Trainspotting I noticed the Deluxe Edition is just the old 2-Disc with an added disc slapped on... literally... same packaging! God... no thanks. If there was ever a large release with crappy video, it was Spider-Man, and now I have an absolutely AMAZING looking Superbit of the movie... seriously, it looks NICE from what I played around with.

I really take Columbia TriStar to task over their SB versions of newer movies...why can't they do it 1st class the first time out?

I would have to hear that there is a BIG difference in the SB version for me to even remotely consider double dipping on this one.

I think the Superbit looks amazingly better than the previous edition, which I thought looked like crap. I am very happy with me purchase (But then I sold the original for $10 and got a free ticket worth $10, so technically it was a free upgrade).

Review I just read states this:

Quote:
I've done comparisons with the original release and as expected, the improvements are minimal. After all, that original release looked excellent and as such, there was little room for enhancements.
Now, I think that is total BS. I remember when the first edition came out people complained left and right about the horrible compression problems, directly because they had a billion fucking things as well as the 2 and a half hour feature on the one disc.

Just posted a few comparison shots from the 2 versions here in the SuperBit thread

But i forgot to post another shot comparison. So here it is from the IGN Insider dvd boards.

Original 2-Disc Release

SuperBit

Looks brighter and a bit cleaner then the original.

Her tits are definitely brighter and more clear in the second picture (the Superbit). As for the rest of the scene, who gives a shit?

Thank you for using shots from the one redeeming thing Spider Man has going for it (in my opinion anyway).

If the studio really cared, they would have simply put the superbit version in the "Deluxe" box with the extra disc instead of the already-released 2-disc special edition.

Of course, I'm not really complaining because I was always bothered by the original set because the hub in the case had cracked my disc in the center, and I was always worried that it would eventually can rot or something.

So, getting to replace my old set was fine with me.

When you add up all the different dvd versions of Evil Dead and Spiderman,
how many Sam Raimi dvds are out there.

(on a related note, i found it pretty funny that Army of Darkness is instead called
"Captain Supermarket" on the cover in Japanese. how fun.)

I never got the original release of Spider-Man, so if I got one of these new editions, I'd definitely get the deluxe edition. I'd like seeing all the features that go into the making of the movie.

Thanks SilentBob for putting those pics up... even there in the night scene you can see what a differance there is... the daytime scenes are even more telling, like the parade scene...

Reviews are so funny...

THIS review states that the video is much improved, but the sound is basically the same...

THIS review states the Audio is much improved, but the image remains basically the same.

In the end, I have the disc, and I can tell you slat-out it is a better transfer. If you were dissapointed in the original disc in any audio/visual way, I would reccomend getting the new Superbit. If you were perfectly happy with it, then I guess why would you even think of getting it?

I'll just throw in another review in since we are at it IGN DVD.com Same comparison shots i have posted already but review form. Debating whether or not i should double dip. I don't have the HDTV to really notice a difference but will hopefully have one someday. Plus the commentary is said to be pretty good as well

The commentary is pretty good. Nothing real insightful, but not so boring that you want to shut it off. But I do agree it's much better than the original commentary.

Speaking of the commentary, that would be the only reason for me worth double-dipping for. But I've heard that you can access the track by playing the old release on your DVD-ROM drive. Is this true?

I am not sure if anyone else noticed, but the original release seemed to have a problem where the frame would briefly move vertically during certain scenes. Probably more noticeable since I have a 4:3 TV. One instance I remember was when the Goblin makes his appearance at the Fair, as he is approaching in the distance. I was wondering if this is fixed for the Superbit, if so, then I'll upgrade.

Okay, I might bite and finally buy Spider-man to get the movie pass for S2. Not sure yet if it will be the Deluxe or Superbit version. What do you think of the extras on the SE?

None of the reviews I've read talk very much about the Web-i-sodes (follow the White Rabbit). How many are there, and how well done are they? Are they entertaining & informative?

How good is Spider-Man: The Mythology of the 21st Century?

Are there any extras from the SE that you would really miss if you didn't have them? The screen tests seems like they would be interesting.

Or I could just wait another few years until the trilogy box comes out...

Either version I pick up is a compromise and I'm thinking about passing on both because I don't want to give Columbia a sale when they could have done better.

The trailer to the movie is the one extra that I really, really want on all my DVDs. That plus good menus puts me in the mood of the movie. Of course trailers and menus are not included on Superbits, it would blow their mission statement.

A good transfer could have been had on the original SE release, but they loaded up the first disc with too much junk. Loose the music videos, French language track, combine the two (reportedly boring and slow) commentaries into an interesting and well paced one, and kick off the non-Spidey trailers and the picture probably wouldn't have the problems it does now because of lack of space.

It seems to me that good audio/video and a trailer should be an option out of four releases. Once I see Spidey 2 I won't want to see Spider-man for another few years, maybe by then there will be a version that I am happy with.
