I can confirm the original HL2 disc has a commentary on it with the producers and also a making of featurette and still photos.
You would think they would include the commentary since it was quite informative, especially since they're spreading the extras onto a 2nd disc. They should have done a 2disc set for the original movie, since this one doesn't really merit one! |

Highlander 2: Electric Re-do
What you should bear in mind is that this isn't just an anamorphic version of the Renegade Version, as there have been a LOT of new digital effects done by an effects company here in the UK, with lots of new transitions into scenes and just spring cleaning effects.
If only they'd cut out a load of Michael Ironside's OTT humour, it might be the movie fans were hoping for first time around.

Once they arted the whole beings from outer space/another dimension or whatever it was, the rot set in.
First one only for me, renegade and spruced effects or not.

These are the features on the current edition of Highlander 2:
Features: Commentary (Director and Producers) 19 Additional Minutes of Film Behind-The-Scenes Photos Production Sketches Featurette: Highlander 2: To Be Or Not To Be A Sequel? (22 Mins.) Publicity Stills THX Certified These are the features of the forthcoming Highlander 2 SE: Features: Disc 1 Newly Remastered High Definition Video Transfer Enhanced and Reimagined Visual Effects Branching Feature That Takes the Viewer Behind The Scenes Disc 2 Highlander 2: Seduced By Argentina: A Collection Of New Documentaries The Redemption Of Highlander 2 The Fabric Of Highlander 2 Shadow & Darkness: The Cinematography Of Highlander 2 Original Cannes Film Festival Promotional Reel Original Theatrical Trailer My source was DVD Empire. The key difference to me is that the SE lacks the audio commentary. This is not a good thing. |

Even though I liked the first one and watched the series, how can there be a Redemption Of Highlander 2??
It can not be. It's not possible!

Example...
The kind of new visuals we have read that they are putting into it include things like huge, open cityscapes that that "camera" can float around, zeroing in on a particular building and heading through the window, bringing you into one of the original scenes with the purpose of widening the scope of the movie.
Some of the new effects they knocked up for the Renegade Version were piss-poor, as though they were created on a BBC B computer (the new Shield Control building springs to mind), so the new ones are welcome. It is rumoured that every last trace of the dreaded planet Zeist will be eliminated, taking out that bloody spaceship they didn't bother shifting in the Renegade Version.

What about all the bizarre guns and holographic screens from "the past"? Or the time-travel? All of those things that made the "Renegade" Version actually make LESS sense than the theatrical cut??

yknow, i wonder, has the original version of HL2 been on dvd yet? Since this is a new 2 disc set, why cant they put the reng. version on one disc and the original on the other, for the completest in me i guess. Im still kinda bumbed about the "new" edition of HL1 that AB did, nothing really new about it!

Don't shoot the messenger, but...
Quote:
The guns are something that didn't get removed (probably because the technology to do so wasn't really up to it at the time), but the time travel and holographic screens are taken into account by the way it showed that the "immortals" are an ancient, super-religous race. This is why Michael Ironside sneers "Priests..." when they decide to exile Lambert & Connery, and said technology is an extension of their religon. This is why the immortals can't fight on holy ground, and also the meaning of The Prize is slightly (but plausably) altered in the Renegade Version to mean that they either remain in the future (the present) to grow old and die, or they can return to their old existence in the past with both their mortailty and their faith restored. Chances are that the remaining bumps (guns, etc) will be ironed out in the new edition.

I agree. I didn't like that angle at all. I liked how it was in the first one, and in the series...that some people were just born immortal.
