Duel or Dune? Your title says Dune and your post says Duel.

You didn't answer his question though...

mlemmond, I went to Digital Bits, and it's Duel that's being referred to.

It might be a bit confusing when seen on the shelf. The only way they could make it worse is if it comes in a snapper.

2 questions:

Is there any difference between this release & the one that Amazon shipped for about 24 hours before stopping?

Have they ever given a reason for pulling it from release last year?

It's on my "to buy" list for sure.

Looks like the same disc as was put out before. Same spine number and everything.

Do I need to re-buy this, or is it the same disc?

Wasn't the recalled pressing from last year matted to 1:85? I'm assuming that the 1:33 Academy ratio is the correct one, yes?

Man, I hope they're not bullshitting us again about the release date. To get Spielbergo's Duel and The Sugarland Express on the same day would be heaven. I just hope that the latter will have some extras...

1.33:1 was the old dvd's aspect ratio,
and was the original ratio of the TV movie.

ign.com put up a review of the old disc a while ago,
and now they are pointing out that the disc coming Aug 17
will be EXACTLY the same as before, so the people that payed
$150 for a copy on ebay might be a bit disappointed.

The original OAR was 1.33:1.

It was matted to 1.85:1 in the theaters for the theatrical cut. A lot of TV stuff was shot this way back in the day anyway, since quite of American TV stuff found its way to international theaters.

This is IS exactly the same as the other one - wonder why the pull? No new transfer (as some said), same extras, same spine catalog number, same ratio.

I did read somewhere that they wanted to do a widescreen version and there was a cover out for a while - the original one with the truck's headlights - rememeber that?

Anyway, I have two left, so I'll offload on on eBay and keep another. Silly to bother selling and re-buying it if its the same.

sell sell sell

Sell it as fast as you can on ebay.
the prices are going a bit down since they used to be,
but you can definetly still be able to sell it for $30+ or more
to those unsuspecting people buying off ebay.....

Amazon now has it up for preorder on August 17th. Glad I ebayed the one I got last year from them (& bought several dvds with the profits). Looks like the exact same one for the same price now.

Yes, Duel streets the week after next. I found this old post of mine from mere days after I joined this forum, which should show just long we've been waiting for this one.

Just saw some new ones.

The only difference is that the new version (same sleeve and spine number) comes with a slipcover a la Pirates Of The Caribbean and a sticker saying "own Steven Spielberg's directorial debut".

I didn't get it, as I have the previous - same - release.

The old one did NOT have an insert inside. Can anyone confirm if the ones shipping now have inserts?

I did see it in the store, but I did not pick it up. I did see the slip cover and it is very shiny I didn't want the movie so I can't confirm slip or not.
