Awesome, Ghostbusters is one of my favorite films. I just hope it's not a repackaging of the existing version, even though it's pretty decent.

It's Columbia, most likely the old DVD in a fancy package so they can over charge. Hopefully I'm wrong though

Would be nice if they did a special edition of Ghostbusters 2. Its not nearly as great a movie, but I would add it to the collection if it had some more features.

agreed, Columbia did a good job on the collector's edition of the first film, but the second is just a barebones - it deserves better

as for a new SE of Ghostbusters, i'd defenetley pick it up, but odds are it will just be a reissued version of the current collector's edition (after all this is columbia we're talking about)

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! YES!!

Aw man. I can't wait to see what Columbia has in store. Maybe all of the deleted scenes, this time? And what about Ghostbusters II? It's its 15th anniversary this year, and Lord knows there a lot of supplemental material that could be thrown that way.

Made my day!

double dipp

ok, here is a movie that certainly doesnt need double dipping.
This is just the studio trying to gobble up more pocket change.

I don't know anyone who seriously had any quibbles about
the original "Ghostbusters" DVD. It still hangs in as one of
the best DVD releases out there and can be found for less than $10.
[Hell, it truly even outshined the Criterion LD]

Now why make an uber-special edition when the current
actually stands great by itself? maybe part 2 but not part 1

Columbia should fix up some of their other bareboned,
or unreleased titles instead of wasting time with this one.

Ghostbusters freaks might say, "uber-special edition!"
but i say just leave it as it is, and why not get the animated series
onto dvd sometime instead......

Yeah I have no idea with as great a disc the first one was, why they think they can pull a double-dip on it. I guess they figure it's been several years since it was first released so most might have forgotten about it. I won't be touching it though. I'm VERY happy with the first edition.

And twenty years already?
Damn I'm getting old.

Throw in a new A/V transfer and it's a done deal (not that the first one was that bad in the A/V dept.) I'm also all for a re-jiggering of Ghostbusters II, though. Watching it recently, I found it to be better than I remembered. Not as good as the first, but still top notch.

I don't know what else Columbia could put on the Ghostbusters DVD that would make me double dip. I'm really happy with the edition I have now. If Columbia upgraded Ghostbusters II, I'd consider replacing the copy I have now.

New update from GBHQ:

Quote:
With the quickness the HQ received an email from a source at CTHE with the following:

Hey Troy, so you didn't get scooped. It is actually not going to be coming out until 2005. It will be early in the year. I will let you know as soon as I find out the exact date.

Feel free to let your online readers know about this if they ask about the Premiere issue.
So it can't be a simple reissue if they're waiting until 2005(though that'd be the 21st anniversary ). As far as what they could put on the new dvd, there's several deleted scenes that weren't included on the first dvd(nor the Criterion LD). Those would be great. I'd kill for an Aykroyd commentary, or possibly a cast commentary. And since building props is a hobby of mine, some good behind the scenes photos of the uniforms and gear would be nice Oh, and the music video. I always wondered why it wasn't on the current release...

GB was one of the very first DVD's I purchased back in '99. I was and am still very happy w/ the disc. I always thought it was a solid set and doubt I would double dip. But I like that the option is possibly there.....

I own the first SE, and it would take a lot to double dip... I don't even own the second movie though, and I would love to...

This being Columbia, I'm suprised it's not a Suberbit edition. Maybe they'll get around to that about the same time.

Will this be a COLUMBIA FULL FRAME Special Edition? They seem to like releasing those.

I would double-dip if they included additional deleted scenes (including the extra one on the CC LD), the music video, and additional commentaries, or possibly an isolated music score track

If there ever was a DVD that deserved the music video of its title song, Ghostbusters is it. I love that Ray Parker, Jr. music video.

I am happy with the current DVD edition, but might double-dip only if the music video gets included.

I believe it was of them heading downstairs to their quarters on campus after getting back from the library, talking about Ghost Catching and arguing about who'll get the Nobel Prize for making the discovery. It takes place right before they get thrown out of the university. That's why you hear Ray say "The possibilities are limitless!" when walking into the room.

If there were to be a reissue of Ghostbusters II instead,
I would like to have a commentary from
Hank Deutschendorf and Will Deutschendorf,
the twins who both played Baby Oscar.

Interesting trivia through the imdb,
they are John Denver's nephews,
and even after the success of Ghostbusters 2,
they have yet to succeed in being casted in another Hollywood film.

Maybe they can elaborate on the "where are they now" status

Damn...am i the only one who bought the 2-pack? Last summer i got a great deal for both(30$Cdn inc tax) now i'm pissed but i should have known. Maybe in 5 years there will be a "new" 2-pack or something?! Then maybe we'll have all the versions of both movies(GB2 deserved a better DVD) ala Halloween.

No, I bought the two-pack when I first got my player in April 2000. It cost me $50.. this was well before the price decrease to less than $10 a pop. Still, them being my all-time favorite films, I would've payed $100 for them. Columbia could release these 100 times over and I'd buy every copy. I'm just a sucker like that. :p

I have the two-pack.

Kinda makes the whole thing feel that bit more special, especially since many box sets come with a first disc packed with extras and the sequel just sort of tagged on.

Don't know if I'd get a new version of this, but look what they did with Spidey - a Superbit and a new edition at the same time.
