Scorsese Boxed Set Blind Buy

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get some opinions on this subject, as I usually enjoy reading the "Should I blind buy __________?" threads. I'm considering buying the Martin Scorsese boxed set when it comes out. However, the only movie in the bunch that I've seen is Goodfellas. Now, that might sound like quite a risk, buying an entire boxed set blind. However, this is SCORSESE we're talking about here. This is what I think about the movies of his that I HAVE seen.

Goodfellas - love it, one of my favorites
Taxi Driver - didn't get it at first, but now it's easily one of my favorites. I even have a Travis Bickle shirt that reads "Here is a man who would not take it any more." I wear that to my teaching job on days when I'm grouchy.
Last Temptation of Christ - I'm not religious, but this is one of my favorite movies as well.
Casino - love it.
Raging Bull - appreciate it more than love it. I'm itching to watch it again, as I still don't feel as though I "get it."
Gangs of New York - liked it enough to buy it, can't say it's a favorite though.
King of Comedy - I've only seen bits and pieces, but what I've seen, I like. I'm sure that I'll buy this one eventually.
Cape Fear - it's been a long time, but I remember really liking it.

So, I've seen seven of his movies and there's not a bad one in the bunch as far as I'm concerned. Would it be reasonable to guess that I'd like everything in the boxed set?

rent

why not trying to rent the movies to see if you like them first?
I know for a fact "Mean Streets" is already out barebones on DVD.

All the others can be found at video rental stores,
and if you dont feel like spending money renting,
go to your local library, they usually have videos there.

You have some time to rent and watch them until the boxset is released

chances are good you'll like 'em all with the possible exception of 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.' it's kind of an awkward cross between an Altman-style character study and an Oprah-approved Lifetime movie-of-the-week. if the Eurythmics had recorded 'Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves' before this film had been made, it'd have been included. hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it's used for the main menu.

it's not a badly made film (actually it's damn good for what it is), but it's really more of a studio product. kind of Martin proving that he can make any kind of film. like Soderbergh did with 'Erin Brockovich'; "I'm not JUST an arthouse director! I can make movies for the multiplexes too!"

I just hope there's some explanation given in the commentary track for the truly bizarre edit in the use of Mott's 'All The Way From Memphis.' that always confounded me.

but the rest of the films in the set are grade-A Scorsese.
