JFK Directors Cut! NEW!
Rumors has it that the new version of JFK being released in the Oliver Stone set will be an all new Directors Cut. It could go up to 4 hours long! I was just wondering if anyone has heard about this or knows what's true and what's not? Perhaps the dvd will have the hour documentary on the JFK assassination? I also heard it was 2 discs.
Somewhat Offtopic: How long can a dvd play for video on one side? If it was 4 hours that would bring back the initial problems with the first disc, it being a flipper and all |

I haven't heard anything about a new cut of JFK but it would be great.
And to answer your question it is my understanding that you can get 4 HRs on one side of a dual-layered DVD. But you'd have to put all the extras on a seprate disc. I could be wrong though. |

![]() is there really that much more stuff out there for JFK? i have the old flipper and there are several scenes that were put back in and the movie works great. i am all for a longer cut of this excellent film, but how much more is there?? and yes, it would be easy to fit 4 hours onto a dvd9, especailly if they kept the 2.0 sound mix from the original disc, which was quite good. all extras would have to be on the other side of the disc or a second disc. |

You know I felt exactly the opposite about the "directors cut" of JFK, I thought the original theatrical version was much tighter & more forward moving than some of the (to me) pointless extra scenes stone added back in to the DC which slowed down the otherwise perfect/paranoid pace of the movie IMO.
personally I would like to see the theatrical cut of JFK. ------------------ -----Kevin M.----- "Just because the f*cker has a library card doesn't make him Yoda." |

The version currently available is a longer version than was seen in theaters. I'm not sure what the run time on it is, though. I think it's about 3 1/2 hours. I'm not a fan of the longer cut. I think it actually makes the film worse, especially the talk show bit. I much prefer the original theatrical version.
Sometimes, more is not better. I think JFK is one of those films where such is the case. If they do put out a longer cut, I hope they use seamless branching so those of us who just want to see the original version can watch that instead. |

I agree and disagree with you. In the case of JFK, I believe the longer the better. The more facts are revealed and more of Oliver Stones wicked camera work! But I agree, I hope for at least both current released versions to be on the disc. Although, as I have mentioned before, this disc could be pushing the bit limit and making it a flipper disc. Can you measure the amount of video a disc can hold? Doesn't the bit per second determine that? So with the best picture and DTS sound you might be able to hold less than 3 hours right?

(SPOILER FROM JFK FOR TAXI)
Taxi, the "Back and to the left" line is spoken by Kevin Costner when his character Jim Garrison is showing the Zapruder film of the Kennedy assassination in court. He constantly replays the shot where Kennedy's hit in the head over and over again. (This is gonna sound gross) Kennedy's head flops "back, and to the left" after he's shot. Garrison repeats that line with every repetition of the clip....hence the repitition of the line. Sam |
