Alternate Trainspotting Cover

Inspired by zinema and his alternate bond covers, I went ahead and dusted off Photoshop and made a replacement cover for Buena Vista's horrid Trainspotting cover... it's absolutely gash! Interesting as the original cover is thoroughly laced with critic quotes (which I HATE) and the description of the movie makes absolutely NO mention of drugs or heroin... very sad.

Anyways, I created a new design, which is primarily based off the original movie poster, the soundtrack CD design, and some other inspirations... It's not finished yet, I would just like some feedback. Once done, I will make the hi-res version available once I've printed out a copy and see that everything is fine... Thanks!

Test cover here.

Thats actually very good,.. the only difference I would suggest would be to move the background picture on the back cover to the left a littel, so the text is over her face.

but very cool

You mean, "So the text isn't over her face," don't you?

And I like it. Very cool. Good work, kken.

Excellent, really good! Man, it just makes me more anxious for the Criterion!

Very nice. Would look Awesome in an orange Amaray case.
The picture of the girl on the back cover doesn't seem quite right though. Maybe a scatter of scrunched-up banknotes, & small bags filled with an white substance would look better.

C'mon.. You need at least 1 critic's quote somewhere on the cover (not necessarily the front though)

Thanks for the suggestions! I did indeed shift the back picture of Diane a bit to the left, looks a bit better now.

However, I'm tending to agree with Jmzr... somehow she doesn't look quite right there. I'll mess around with alternative backgrounds this week.

Do they even make orange amaray cases?? That would be very cool... or maybe the silverish grey ones like the Abyss DVD has.

And no, no critic quotes anywhere hehehe... I absolutely hate them. Call it knee jerk reaction to the original cover, which is nothing BUT critic quotes hehe.

Thanks again for the input folks... I'll have an updated web version up later this week.

If they could make gold cases for The Prince Of Egypt I'm sure an orange one shouldn't be a problem.
If you hate critic quotes all over your DVD covers, you're lucky you don't live in Region 4 where every release seems to have AT LEAST 3 quotes on the front cover.

NICE!

perhaps for the back, the overhead shot of Renton in bed, you know the "getting clean at the folks house" scene.

Ken, maybe if you leave the girls pic where it is, centered, but flip it so she's facing the other way.

Love your design - have you ever seen the criterion LD? youre much closer to that than the BV stuff that was crap.

FutureDirector,

Yeah, I've decided to leave the picture of Diane in... really couldn't find another suitable picture and I just love her characters in the movie hehehe "Ziggy Pop is dead"

I haven't seen the Criterion LD release... I had gone all-DVD by then but my designs are mainly based off the cd booklet/case design which I think was based off the original theatrical poster. The one thing I am worried about is trying to get the nice glossy sheen that the paper stock for the cd booklet has. My brother is a graphic designer in Denver and has loads of printer connections so we are going to find out how to achieve that look and then I will probably print a run of the covers, maybe 100-200, have them cut,and then just give them away to friends and whoever wants one. The main file will be available for download still, though.

I'll be out of town this weekend but the cover should be finalized and finished by next Weds.

well if you flip the picture, left to right, than youll still have it centered but the text will be off her face.

if you have the ability to try that, I'd be interested to hear if It worked
