My guess is that the studios didn't give any review discs away (yet).

Search this forum and the forum at DVDTalk.com. There are a couple of reviews out there that I've read for Transformers: the Movie.

Dom, are you now making up imaginary posts in your head? And, to make matters worse, then responding to them on the real board?

Dude, you may want to lay off the drugs.

The VCR industry in the 1800s was more primitive than today, largely because VCRs wouldn't be invented for another 75 years or so.

Either I put this here or start a new post entitled, "Hi, My Name is Vertigo and I'm a DVDaholic."

Today, I bought my dream machine, a Pro Elite 610HD. Great price, immediate delivery, and, though it gave three guys hernias, they got it up the stairs with out even a smudge on the luscious finish. And, I got it set up and working perfectly in less than two hours (a record for me). Okay, here's the point. What really sent me over the moon: the dealer gave me a copy of Gladiator. And RegniL, awesome, awesome doesn't begin to describe it. Get ready for your new reference-demo disc folks.

Congrats on the new TV. I am envious of your new toy to say the least. You will be giving us a full review of the Pioneer, as well as your early copy of Gladiator, I hope

Well, Vertigo, you beat me! My store doesn't even get the DVD until tonight...

Let's just see who gets their review up first!

Gladiator was the first dvd I played on my new Elite 610-HD and DV-37. Now that I've spun a few other discs, including Fifth Element, the opening scene of Lost In Space, and, last night, Perfect Storm, I think I can separate my awe for the Elite monitor and player from my awe for Gladiator. I'm no reviewer, but here are a few "first" impressions.

Gladiator is an absolutely gorgeous dvd. Beautiful transfer; couldn't find a flaw anywhere. I have a Denon AVR 4800, so I could play it DTS-ES, albeit matrix not discrete. The sound seemed rich, full, and well-balanced. Dialogue is very clear. The back effects channel was used judiciously, blending into a total envelope of sound. The opening battle scene is where I heard the most "localized" ES, with arrows and tar pots flying overhead from rear to front. Gladiator, of course, isn't a sub thumper like T2 or JP, so don't expect the windows to be shaking. I'm still working my way through the supplement disc; tons of stuff, excellently done. IMO, Dreamworks has done a great job, and most of you are going to be thrilled. I say "most" because you can always count on someone having a contrary view.
