i read a couple of days ago on a site about a release of the original Nasferatu coming out soon, with commentary! i cant find any info now. when is it being released?

I don't know about any new re-releases, of the classic film (Nosferatu, by the way, not Nas..) but there is currently a very good DVD available from Image Entertainment. I'm actually doing some looking for you on this as I type and I found at the Image Entertainment site, and they seem to be rereleasing the print I'm speaking of on 1/2/01. The only difference I noticed is a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack as opposed to the 2.0 stereo on my copy: http://www.image-entertainment.com/

Yeah, unless Image didn't announce everything that will be on the new disc, the only difference between that and the one currently available (by itself, not talking about the box set of German silent films) is the soundtrack.

The current DVD has organ music done in stereo while the new release will supposedly have a DD5.1 orchestra track.

Most likely they're just rereleasing it to coincide with the release of Shadow of the Vampire (the fictional tale of the making of Nosferatu) which comes out late December.
