I don't believe its even been released theatrically. Not sure why. Maybe its not that good. There might be an international release. But, not a region 1 for sure.

Not available. Miramax has yet to give it a theatrical release outside of it's Toronto festival screening. One of the many films they have gathering dust on their shelves.

You can find Russian and Korean DVDs on Ebay, but they are of questionable legality. It isn't available in the UK yet either. I think it was released in Sweden as the director is Swedish.

I've been waiting to see it for a while, since reading Wurtzel's book in the mid 90's. Been curious to see what they would do with it.

There is a Scandanavian PAL R2 out, seems like the only one that i know of, and that was released back in April by Scanbox www.scanbox.dk

It has the film in 1.78:1 anamorphic,
Dolby 5.1/2.0 English,
Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finish subtitles
Anatomy of a Scene,
Cast and Crew Profiles
Production Notes
Interviews with Jason Biggs and Jonathan-Rhys Meyers
Theatrical Trailers
and Bonus Trailers (Shattered Glass, Intermission, Singing Detective)

you can go to www.dvdoo.com also.

There is a Japanese NTSC R2 that came out in January,
with pretty much the same features, except a Japanese dub and Japanese subtitles,
and that can be bought at www.amazon.co.jp/dvd or www.cdjapan.co.jp

Actually you guys should save yourself the trouble of importing and head over to celebritymoviearchive.com where you can find a pretty decent quality clip of those "reasons". From what I've heard, that's the only reason to even watch the movie with word being that it's pretty bad.

According to the IMDB...no disc. No release.

No loss.

I've read the book, and frankly, Elizabeth Wurtzel should be fucking shot. I have never read anything more whiny or self-centered in my entire life than that damn book.

Word is audiences would rather see "The Day the Clown Cried" than this.

This is strange, When I first heard about Prozac Nation a few years ago the only good news I read was to look for Christina's twins. I guess the film hasn't gotten any better with age. I do remeber some writter mentioned that it was important that this film get a US release, because Christina was rumored to be getting a breast reduction. I don't know if the reduction story is true, but I hope not.

Christina Ricci always has and always will look like the GRADY HALLWAY TWINS from THE SHINING to me.

She's a great actress, but I just don't see the sex appeal.

Plus she's short.

Larry Gross, the original screenwriter on the film, told the newspaper that its controversial nature -- it was praised and damned when it was shown at the Toronto Film Festival in 2001 -- may be responsible for its landing in limbo. "[Miramax Co-chairman] Harvey [Weinstein] might buy an obscure Japanese film and release it, knowing there's a chance it won't work, because no one will pay it the kind of attention that will rebound against him," said Gross. "Prozac Nation is in the backyard of the people who look at what he does for a living. So any failure to put it over will be looked at very carefully. And that's a reason not to distribute it."

I finally got one of the Chinese DVDs floating around Ebay.

The film really isn't that bad. It is better than the Ricci and Biggs Woody Allen film from last year. Ricci is excellent in it.

But, other than those who have read the book, I don't know what the audience for the film would be. It's well done, but not all that compelling. I don't see much crossover appeal for it. I can understand why Miramax isn't in a rush to release it.

The Chinese DVD on the other hand was one of the worst I have seen. Unwatchable in parts. Every time the camera moved, the picture went blurry and didn't recover until the camera was steady for a few seconds.

It also has nonremovable subtitles which cover the bottom of the frame. For those watching it for the topless scene, they cover her toplessness.

So, is the scene in Prozac Nation before or after the reduction?

They looked pretty nice to me.

Also, is that REALLY the cover?

Yes it is. The critique on the cover is quite accurate. I really enjoyed it.
