Cannibal Holocaust news, or has this become a rhetorical question?

Looking into DVDs I need to "catch up" on.

I sold my crappy bootleg of Cannibal Holocaust a while ago when I heard grindhouse held the rights as was going to put out the "definitive" edition.

That definitive edition has probably been 3 years in the making.

Anyway, anyone know any news about this? And if it's still dead in the water, what DVD would you recommend, any region?

My only requirement is English. 2 hours of supplemental material I can't understand does me no good.

There's an official version out, man. I've seen "Cannibal Holocaust" for sale at BORDERS.

You must be thinking of a different movie. Perhaps Cannibal Ferox?

Here is a list of all the DVDs of the movie out:

Out of all of those, only two are U.S releases, one of them isn't even out (the Grindhouse release, hence "not announced") and the other is the bootleg I owned.

If you want to get Cannibal Holocaust, get one of these two versions...

If you can play PAL, get this one...great quality

If you can't, get this one...R0 NTSC...almost as great quality as the PAL disc ...this one is R0 NTSC

I have both versions and they're both great...the PAL disc has the best quality of any Cannibal Holocaust release and is the longest available version of the film...If you can play PAL, get that release...If you can't, I would recommend the NTSC...It is great quality, almost as good as the PAL...

It might be a regional thing, but I've seen the one with the photoshopped skull at more than one Borders. Is this the bootleg in question? If so, that's quite surprising; Borders is generally quite good about those things.

I will admit I confused "Cannibal Apocalypse" and "Cannibal Holocaust", though.

Thanks for the information, but to be honest, those DVDs aren't really up to snuff (pun intended).

By comparison, it looks like the Italian release is so much better, with the French release in second place.

To be honest, I'd rather just wait for the Grindhouse, even though it might never come out, than buying a rushed release.

Yeah Grindhouse is annoying the hell out of me,with their never coming release of this film!!!!

They said they'd get to finishing and releasing the dvd once they finished work editing Spiderman(the guys who run Grindhouse are film editors). Well that was 2 years ago,Spidy has already been released long ago + 4 or so dvd editions!

So what happened to their 'promise'?

I've basically given up on them. If one day they do get it on dvd. I will be surprised and probably buy it. But my enthusiasm for the release will long be dead, thanks to the endless wait.

I had to settle for a VHS bootleg of the Cult Epics laserdisc to finally see the film last year. I may eventually just get a DVD-R of that version,to tide me over. At least it won't degrade like VHS(which I've only watched twice). At least the quality is really good(not a billionth generation copy of a copy..ala the shit bootlegers try scaming on ebay..which is why I never bother with the bastards) from a person I personally know and trust.

So it will tide me over, probably for the rest of my life..as I don't feel the Grindhouse thing is happening anymore.

The film played theatrically for one night here back in 2001. Oh how I wanted to see it,but my crappy work schedule prevented that.

Unlike The Beyond theatrical release...which the dvd was released soon afterwards(thanks to AnchorBay). The theatrical release of CH is long overwith..and still no fucking dvd release!!

They better just work out a deal with AnchorBay or Blue Underground to get this thing on dvd already. I mean,if AB & Rolling Thunder did not step in with The Beyond..we'd still be waiting for Grindhouse to release the damn thing!

Here's a place to compare all versions of CH!

I think the R2 Dutch EC "Ultra-Bit" version is supposedly the best, with regards to the film itself, at least. Not sure about the extras, though, as I don't own that version.
