Angel: Season Three (warning, S3 spoilers ahead)
Wow. Just... wow! I know this came out several months ago, but I wanted to wait to watch it until I had had a chance to watch season six of Buffy. I know that since both of them were on different networks there would be a minimum of crossover, but I didn't want to possibly spoil anything from Buffy, so I waited. And, boy, was it worth it! That has to be one of the most PACKED seasons I've ever seen. We went from Angel being in a monastary to mourn, Cordelia getting worse and worse because of her visions, Fred being a complete recluse, and Wes and Gun being brothers in arms, to Angel having a sixteen year old son, Cordy being ushered into the higher realms to be a higher being, Fred and Gun getting together and fighting the good fight, and Wes literally sleeping with the enemy during his exile from the group. Again, wow! Every episode offered one surprise after another, and I was almost biting my nails at every bad turn. That was amazing, and made Buffy actually look bad (though, a less than great Buffy is still better than 90% of the rest of what TV has to offer). I have no idea what is coming up next (and please don't spoile it!), but with this to spring from I can only expect good things. Bravo Joss. What a job well done!

Nice post, Reaver. Glad you liked it. I didn't like Angel S3 as much as you did, but I had that same reaction with S2. I was blown away by Angel's non-Angelus turn to the dark side in the middle of S2. And although I did like much of S3, it didn't blow me away like S2 did.

S2 was good, but the "I'm brooding 'cause I'm a lonely good guy vamp" thing was really getting on my nerves. The ending of that season picked things up for me though. A bit too Xena-esque, I still thought it was fun. But S3... man, wow!

I think Season Three is the best of the seasons I've seen so far. I caught the entirety of Season Four on TNT with a crappy, non-widescreen signal and probably edited slightly for syndication too, and I think it comes close, but not quite. I have vented my feelings about this season (especially the ending) elsewhere, so I won't bother reiterating here. It's such a perfect arc and it's a real powerhouse for Alexis Denisof...I'm still shocked by his boning Lilah! Jesus!

Nah, for Wesley to be a Judas he would have had to betray the team in a more direct way. I think this was Wesley looking for any sort of comfort...of course, shooting straight down the hole into the dark side, but that's sometimes the way it is. Ever notice that after the first season, an Angel season always has a major character basically going nuts (2 Angel, 3 Wesley, 4 Cordy?)
I like that Wesley and Lilah turned into an actual relationship towards the end, with real feelings. If for no other reason than Lilah referring to Fred as "The Texas Twig"; man, do they whale on Amy Acker for her weight!

I think my favorite line from the whole season was this one, said with the smell of sex still strong in the air:
Lilah: "I hope you don't get all moony on me and think about me when I'm gone." Wesley: "I wasn't even thinking of you when you were here." Oh man, when I said that, all I could think was "BUUURRNNN!!!" ![]() |

I've been watching Season 4 on Fox (comes on late Saturday nights). I've never watched it before until a couple weeks ago. I got sucked in when, um, a certain person came to help them with a big baddy. (Trying not to give anything away and don't know how to do spoiler tags.) Now Cordelia has had an interesting *thing* come up (or out) and I'm wondering how all that's going to play out. From the previews for next week's episode, the beauty turns icky.
Anyway, I went to some Angel website and read a little about the first three seasons and all the episodes of season four leading up to what I first saw. Reaver, I can't say much about the first episodes of season four since I didn't see them, but of what I have seen: things really get interesting. ![]() |
