Favorite School-Themed Films?
I recently wrote an article on school-themed films for a back-to-school issue of a local magazine. Having earned my B. Ed. this spring, I had fun picking films that focused on students, teachers, parents. etc. Here are the ten that I selected:
1. Rushmore 2. Election 3. Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939 version) 4. If... 5. The Breakfast Club 6. Rock 'N Roll High School 7. Blackboard Jungle 8. Fast Times at Ridgemont High 9. The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys 10. Freaks and Geeks (TV I know, but I made a special exception in the article) There are a lot of school-themed films, good and bad, so how many different films can you come up with?

Fast Times was huge for me since it came out just as I was graduating high school. I'd rank it as my personal favorite because it evokes that time so well. The Breakfast Club ranks second for similar reasons. After that I'd probably go with Animal House (it was filmed at the University of Oregon where I went to college,) Ferris Bueler's Day Off is next followed by Election, Rushmore, Bring It On (for pure camp,) Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.

I will second Battle Royale for a vote.
I will also add Sidney Poitier's "To Sir With Love" on the list

That's a solid list retroboy. A lot of the additional ones listed here don't specifically deal with the high-school experience (Boyz N the Hood) or simply have it as a casual backdrop (Almost Famous, American Beauty) or deal with college themes or settings when you seem to be focussing more on high school (Old School, Orange County, Wonder Boys, Good Will Hunting)
The main ones I'd add have also already been mentioned, in: Heathers Mean Girls To Sir With Love |

Most people chose stuff like Dead Poets Society or To Sir With Love. I used Back To School. Sam Kinnison demonstrating that a teacher should have a strong attachment to their subject matter got a pretty good response. |

I liked 'Heaven help us' about a catholic school and has Mary Stuart Masterson in it when she was still cute.
'The Chocolate War' and 'Donnie Darko' rank highest for me.
