This was a great excuse to pick up some (admittedly limited) film history on the cheap:
"A Personal Journey through American Movies w/Martin Scorsese": if you don't know this, you should: this is the what the product of the "loving geekdom + actual film knowledge + the philosophy of cinema + pure, unadulterated genius" equation looks like.
"Easy Riders, Raging Bulls": like the book, tends to be of more gossip- than information-value, but fun anyway.
and, the Big Kahuna,
Kino's 5-disc "The Movies Begin": while some of this is condensed into Image's "Landmarks of Early Film vols.I&II", this is perhaps the most textually comprehensive -- hundreds of early films -- and historically valuable collection of cinema's first decade or so; it quite thankfully even strives for a more international perspective (bringing in works that weren't French or American, which is the primary focus of most such histories) on these early movements in the medium. Purely essential for any student of cinema.

Perhaps I'll go back for more...

I picked up Brazil Criterion. I used to have it and unfortunately had to sell it.

For 34 bucks shipped, it was very hard to pass up.

www.DeepDiscountDVD.com is an online retailer. The 20% off sale ends today. Be warned that their customer service is lacking. They used to be better. Good luck.

It's Deep Discount DVD, http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com.
The sale ends today, so get crackin'!

You'll be asked to enter a code upon checkout (it's a small box under the shipping options). Codes for this promotion include:
deepdiscount
summersale
usatoday

You can only use each code once; others are listed in the Bargain Area forum if you need more than 3 trips to the well.

The sale does NOT hold for any preorders.

(BTW, there are a number of other threads on this merchant throughout the forums, if you want a sense of how good they are overall: the consensus is that they're not what they used to be, and I'd agree; still, I've never had major problems with them and this sale is worth any inconveniences).

Hope this helps...

Thats what I figured. I've ordered from them 3 times since they opened. Each time, my order was delayed for weeks. Not touching them again with a 10ft pole.

Damn my rent! I wish I could have ordered more, and I must say I wonder what some of you do for a living....some of those lists are looonnngggggg

For Me.

Black Orphues (Criterion)
Beauty and the Beast (Criterion)
Dead Zone Season 1 (heard some good things and I ain't gonna find it cheaper)
Barney Miller (Criterion)...just kidding! But wouldn't it be cool if they had it :p !

How often do they have these kind of sales? I had heard about them before but have never ordered from them due to mixed reviews. I couldn't pass up this sale though.....

With DDD, it only happens once or twice a year. The last time they had the 20% off sale, it was last December. That was the last time I turned a bunch of wishlist DVDs into purchases. I wouldn't expect to see a similar sale again until Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Just got an email that 3 of my 8 DVDs in my order got shipped today. The other 5 are out-of-stock and are hopefully being ordered.

I bought the five collections that comprise Farscape Season 4 (although because V4.5 is a pre-order, no discount was applied), and BBC's The Office two-pack set. Never saw The Office, but have heard so many good things about it, and the $30-some it cost seemed reasonable enough. Never saw seaon 4 of Farscape, either, for that matter, but I've already got the first 3 seasons and love 'em. Terrific show--bring on The Peacekeeper War!

I just got my shipment of the two seasons of The Office, and V4.1 and 4.4 of Farscape today (4.2 and 4.3 are on backorder). Really looking forward to watching The Office this weekend.

Well I waited untill the last minute but I finally broke down and put in my order.

I picked up a couple of Hitchcock classics I had never managed to get; Psycho and The Birds.

And a few cult favorites I decided I needed in my collection; Six String Samurai, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, and The Brother From Another Planet.

All together it set me back $53.75 after a savings of $12.22, not too bad at all.

I went a little nuts (for me), but the prices were just too hard to pass up!

Here's what I ordered (biggest single total DDD order I ever made):

1. Warner Legends Collection ($41.48 w/discount) (includes The Adventures of Robin Hood, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and Treasure of the Sierra Madre, in addition to tons of extras)

2. The Jetsons - First Complete Season ($38.00 w/discount)

3. Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song ($10.07 w/discount)

4. Cotton Comes to Harlem ($7.48 w/discount)
5. Coffy ($7.48 w/discount)
6. Foxy Brown ($7.48 w/discount)
7. Friday Foster ($7.48 w/discount)
8. Sheba Baby ($7.48 w/discount)

Total came to $126.95 w/ free shipping. Whew!

Least now I'm getting a nice selection of blaxploitation titles and the two box sets I've wanted most for a while now.

Ok i finally decided to buy something online. So i went ahead and bought

Armegeddon CC
Rushmore CC
Pulp Fiction CE
Dead Like Me Seson 1

All 4 came to less then $100 Us and overall about $140 Cnd. I'm still saving a crap load of money after the money convertion itself.

Now a question for frequent users. After i said OK for my order do i get any email saying that they have received my order and will let me know of its statis. I haven't gotten anything in about 4 hours and don't see anything in my Account Status at DDD.com Though it does say to wait 24hrs to see any order update status
