What sets can you not BELIEVE have been released!?

Okay, folks, there is some potential to hurt some feelings here, so all I ask is to only attack the shows and not the people who like the shows. But, really, can you believe the amount of boxed sets that have been coming out? It was just a few years ago I had my dream list of shows that I knew I would NEVER see on DVD... and now I own them all!!! With the good, however, I see many headscratchers on the shelves. I know there MUST be an audience for them, but I just look at 'em and go... "WHY!?"

1. Just Shoot Me

I could list nothing but sitcoms, but that's simply my taste. Upon further reflection, this one puzzles me the most. Does this show really have a strong enough following to warrant this?

2. Saved by the Bell

I'll try to limit the sitcoms, but this HAD to be here!!!

3. Punky Brewster

I promise, no more sitcoms, but COME ON!!!! Just spend $4.00 to get a box of Splenda, instead...

4. Punk'd

If there ever was a show that needed to be archived...

5. The Man Show

Boobies. Penis. Penis penis boobies.

I gotta admit that i'm still baffled that there is any demand for this one. Man, I HATED this show when it was on.

Most of the others you listed are fairly new and I can unerstand them being released on dvd.

Soap

I'm just wondering if you ever seen Soap? I know that it has a lot of actors that became recognizable and it still holds up really well today. The show was rather a head of its time and to find it a head scratcher is rather odd, imo. Plus, Saved by the Bell is one of those goofy guilty pleasures that a lot of people my age (mid 20s) are buying it as either gag gifts or to watch because they're such goofy stuff.

I'm not surprised some of this stuff comes out but more surprised with stuff that doesn't.

Yes, I've seen Soap. Good show, but still, I haven't seen people clammoring for it in mass droves like other shows. And no way I'm gonna argue with you on Saved by the Bell. I used to love that show and would've picked up the DVD's if there had been some decent extras.

Excellent examples, Palmer--I cannot stand those shows! I know that taste is a subjective concept, but I shake my head when I hear about boxed sets planned for Who's the Boss and Alf and I can't even have the second season of Twin Peaks or The Fugitive!

More on my TV snob hit list:

Knight Rider--yeah, I know there are fans of the show, but it's a talking trans-am and David Hasselhoff! Yes, the dramatic possibilities are endless!

Silk Stockings--Anchor Bay is releasing Stephen Cannell's 'award-winning' series on DVD, but alas, no Crime Story S2 yet.

Son of the Beach--at least this turd will never see a second set!

Then again somebody else could roll their eyes as I tremble with excitement over the upcoming Strangers with Candy S3 or completing Millennium on DVD.

I gotta admit that I'm baffled that there were actual "reviews" for this thing and a ton of posts, replies, comments and complaints about the eventual set that was released.

I think you misunderstood the title, because "News Radio", while delayed, is a set that has not been released yet.

That being said, I'm surprised that "Starsky & Hutch" already has 2 season sets out on DVD.

I can't believe Wonder Woman,Knight Rider,The Dukes of Hazard and the A Team have been released on dvd although I like all four shows. Now I'm left to wonder why the Incredible Hulk and Emergency two of my favorite shows haven't hit dvd yet in season sets.I'm also suprised but happy to hear that Seinfield,The Golden Girls,Miami Vice and The Bionic Woman are going to be out by years end.I never would have thought these would have hit dvd.

As for me, I'm astonished that they actually archived the entire (brief) run of My Big Fat Greek Life on DVD. What's next, Whoops!?

I know I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I'm baffled by the popularity of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Living with a Buffy fan, I have had a lot of exposure to the show, and how it got past the first season is still a mystery to me. Chalk it up to the soap opera characterizations, the fact that just about every episode has the same plot structure, the groaningly "hip" dialogue that makes the characters sound like they are in a "Scream" movie, the gimmicky episodes (the silent and musical episodes) or the cut rate production values.

Apparently these sets sell like hot cakes, but there are many (IMO) more worthy shows that should be on DVD.

Well Chunk, I love Buffy way too damn much, mostly because it feels like a comic book on screen, and it has some of the best dialogue ever on a TV show, IMO. I can see why some people don't like it though, and the first season was AMAZINGLY weak compared to the rest.

I will admit though, that...

Silk Stockings is CRAP. But, I will be buying it. Why? Because I watched it like a crack addict when it was on USA, at first just wanting to see some titty, but eventually the stupid characters grew on me, and I still remember the show very fondly. It's just stupid sentimental stuff... I mean, can anyone argue that Transformers or G.I. Joe are good shows? Good cartoons even? No... they suck... but nostalgia makes people buy them.

I just have nostalgia for soft-core porn cop shows, rather than bad 80's toons...

Sorry to be anal, but its "Silk Stalkings" - not Stockings.

anyway - I purchased the Wonder Woman set. LOVE it! I realize that while watching it the acting and the writing are laughable - but Lynda Carter, while not a GREAT actress, brings something GREAT to the role. Its mostly nostalgia for me.

I'm tempted by Knight Rider for the same reason...nostalgia. But, I think I'll pass.

The A-team and Dukes of Hazzard are a mystery to me. Those shows just really suck.

Let me also say that I am a huge Buffy fan.

"A-Team" is fun for an afternoon, but after three episodes you realize that each one is essentially the same plot in a different location with new guest characters, and it gets boring real fast. "Dukes of Hazzard" is just the same - always the same car chase at the end of each episode, usually having to do with something being smuggled through the county and Roscoe's just too dumb to realize that it ain't the Dukes doin' it, agoogoogoogoo...

Although I love Just Shoot Me, not about to get it on DVD.

I would consider Third Rock from the Sun on DVD, even though it seems like I was the only person who's ever seen it.

Nostalgia is a force not to be taken lightly--I've got all the Space:1999 episodes on DVD because I grew up with it in reruns and my aunt's old Beta tapes, but it's kitsch, pure and simple.

Oh Chunk, say it ain't so! No love for Buffy? Yep, definitely in the minority! Have you tried Angel? I think it's funnier, darker and more mature than its sister series.

Thanks for the correction, Daniel. I like the play-on-words much better! I always thought a show about pantyhose was scraping the bottom of creativity.

Like I said, taste is subjective. I'm sure there's some guy out there waiting for Homeboys in Outer Space: The Complete Epic Series on DVD as much as I'm clamoring for the final two seasons of the late, great Millennium. Of course if Homeboys is ever released, then I know the Anti-Christ is alive and well and mucking things up!

Sorry, retroboy. I've given my best efforts to try and cultivate a taste for Buffy for the sake of Ms. Chunkblower, to no avail. I think Angel is even worse. Still, I do live in the Beltline district, so my street cred isn't too tarnished.

I used to love that show for the first few years. I think by the end I had completely stopped watching it, though. I don't think I could ever see myself owning it (no offense intended, clemato). Not because I hated it or anything. Just because I don't really find a lot of sitcoms hold up to repeated viewings.

Chalk me up as another "addict" of Silk Stalkings. Watched every single stupid episode--at least until the new guys showed up. I'm surprised as hell that anybody would even think of putting this on DVD.

I think watching this show so obsessively had more to do with the hard-on that I had for Mitzi Kapture (now there's a porno name if I ever heard it). Had it pretty bad for that woman.

No apologies necessary, Chunk. Retrogrrl, despite being an X-Files fan, cannot stomach watching an episode of Millennium, despite my best efforts. Rest easy, your street cred is totally secure (it's actually doubled because you live near the Ship too).

It puzzles me why the studios would waste so much facility time releasing an awful lot of these sets when they should be restoring and releasing more of their back catalogue material. There are a lot of great films that still need to be released...well before the THREE'S COMPANY boxset!

In fact I see very few TV shows worthy of buying on DVD. The few exceptions are:

The Simpsons
Futurama
Family Guy
Mr. Bean
Band Of Brothers
Millennium
Monty Python's Flying Circus

The boxsets of 24 are the best way to see the show...no commercial breaks and you can watch 4-5 episodes per night. The only downside to that is you get fatigued by the constant action, and I find that halfway through I am fed up with the preposterous plot twists. I get the 24 boxsets for free from work every year, so that's how I watch it (never on TV) and then I sell them on Ebay. I could never imagine watching it again...you know every twist, so where's the fun?

I'm hearing from people that the second season of Millennium will be out in January 05. And it's going to be anamorphic widescreen!

Why the shock Tim? It was a perfect cash in. S1 came the same week as the movie hit theatres. S2 came the week the movie hit DVD. Marketing 101!

Personally, I'm not shocked with any announcement. I am more shocked when they announce how it is going to be laid out. For example the Sliders packaging, even though I won't be buying it looks cool. But they are releaseing it in air-date order as opposed to the more continuity structured production order.

It also shocks me like no other that Forever Knight S2&S3 have not yet been announced. Along with Twin Peaks S2. I want these more then I want air to breathe.
