Farscape: Finally Completed the Set

Any other Farscape fans out there?

Finally purchased the last DVD which completes my set for Farscape. Guess I will have to start with episode 1 and work my way back through the series.

Never did watch the show when it was on TV. Rented the first DVD at Blockbuster on a Friday night long time ago. Didn't really expect to get caught up in the series, but after the first DVD I was hooked and I started buying them.

It is a shame that the show was never given a chance to tie up all the loose plot threads, but it was great series.

Didn't see a thread related to this show, so jumped out to create one.

Any thoughts from anyone on the series positive or negative?

McGuit, yeah I'm sort of in the same boat there. I pretty much collected from the first volume till 1 volume short of all of season 2, not because i lost interest, but even at discount they weren't cheap dvds. So i've just recently gotten back into collecting those, completed season 2, the complete season 3 is on order, same with all the volumes with 4. Now 200 bucks later it's complete, untill the Peacekeeper Wars makes it onto dvd.

Honestly I dug the show, still do. Just watching the season 2 finale it's still a great sci fi show, it's a lot more intimate in terms of character relationships then you'd expect, while still having those moments of grand scope to really make it a sci fi story. I mean seriously, at it's heart it's a love story set in space.

Plus, there were puppets vomiting. Awesome.

It's sad they cancelled it, replaced it with Stargate...althought i dig SG-1. But besides a few missed steps in season 4, it's definately a great show. Plus Ben Browder was the shit, and Cluadia Black made me feel all funny inside.

Isn't there a mini-series in production?

By the time the fourth season was ending they had tied up all the plot threads and were starting new ones. Its why I think the show is worth recommending despite being cancelled. And the new ones they started are supposed to be answered in the mini-series.

There sure is. It's called "Peacekeeper Wars" and it's coming in October if I'm not mistaken. Also, if the mini is successful, there's a good chance that FS will be continued as a regular series.

It's amazing what organized fans can do...

Edit: I guess artood2 beat me to it

Nothing to do with it. Henson always wanted to continue the series, and so did SciFi. Once the German company was out of the picture, they could proceed.

That is news to me about the mini series. Will absolutely have to watch for that on Sci-Fi in October. Or just wait for the eventual DVD and put it on the shelf with the others.

Thanks for the heads up on that one.

Having followed the campaign pretty closely, let me quote Rockne O'Bannons Jan. 31 message to www.watchfarscape.com:

"...let's just say that your undying efforts to keep awareness of a certain television series alive within the entertainment community is the singular reason why a particular unnamed project is now halfway through production."

Of course the company's sale was also a big factor in this, but definitely not the deciding one.

I recently completed this series too, a few weeks ago. Never caught the show when it was on TV, so DVD was my first exposure to it when I got season 1 this past Christmas. Then I had to buy season 2, and was floored. After doing some research and seeing that ADV was only releasing season sets once a year around Oct/Nov, and not knowing about the miniseries, I bought season 3 individually. Found out about the miniseries, bought up all of season 4 during the summer sale at DDD.com. And, naturally, now they're releasing box sets of both relatively soon before the mini. But I'm glad I didn't wait, and I doubt I really could have. The couple months between finishing 3 and 4, I was going through withdrawal--I needed to see new Farscape. I couldn't resist, couldn't stay away, and now I'm waiting for the mini and its eventual DVD release.

There is just so much to love about this show--the writing, all the Crichtonisms and pop culture refrences, the characters/actors. The chemistry that develops between Crichton and Aeryn over the course of the series is just wonderful, and Claudia Black

Season 2 contained some of my favorites, particularly the Liars, Guns, and Money trilogy and Die Me Dicthomy, which ranks as the best season finale. Also love the trilogy that leads into the third season's wrap up.

I have really high hopes for The Peacekeeper War. C'mon October! So, what are some of your favorite moments?

I came to really care about all of the characters....

Zhaan
Dargo
Chrichton
Pilot
Rygel....

But my favorite stand outs were....

Crais... the whole arc of his rise, fall, and rise again... superb

Aeryn.... I was and am madly in love with her.... such a great, strong warrior and all woman...

The entire Talyn arc.. I really felt for Moya and what she must have been experiencing.

Favorite episodes:
So many....
Stand outs.....

"Liars, Guns, and Money Trilogy"... (Good call on that one...)
"The Locket"
"Eat Me"
"Into the Lions Den Part 1 and 2"
"The Look at the Princess Trilogy"
"A Bug's Life"
and probably my all time favorite....
"Out of the Their Minds...."

It is really such a fine series and next to impossible to explain to someone that really has not experienced it.

My full recommendation is that if you like good Science Fiction you should check out the first couple of discs and see if you like "Farscape". It really is unlike most anything else that has come before it. There really is no other way to describe it.

Really great stuff
