I'm very much looking forward to this set since I haven't seen any of those episodes before. I don't get it though, is it going to include all those shorts you listed?

Yep. There are several collections of just the shorts from episodes that came out in the past. I believe it was easier or not necessary for them to get the rights to put them out on VHS and now DVD, unlike the films they were originally featured with on the show.

I'll start buying these sets once they stop including stuff that was already released on VHS that I bought years ago and still have.

Since MST3K WAS in the 80's, no matter what physical incantation you support, aren't you inherently "stuck in the 80's"? It's not like A/V quality really matters for MST3K. These sets are WAY too much for what you get(although I dig the packaging). Rights issues are the problem, but if I had broadband, I would probably just download all of them and burn them to dvd.

mst3kinfo.com is offering an exclusinve bonus DVD of shorts when you order MST3K the essentials through them. Anyone gonna get it there? Even though it comes out to $30 shipped I'm tempted too just so I can get the bonus dvd with the shorts.

Does anyone know if the essentials includes Poopy that was included with the original Manos DVD?

Actually, MST3k spent more time in the NINETIES than the eighties. It started on the Comedy Channel (later Comedy Central) in 1988 after being on a local Minneapolis station for less than a year, then moved to Sci-Fi Channel until they cancelled it in 99.

I think the "stuck in the 80s" comment was a reference to owning video tapes of the eps instead of DVDs, not the show itself.

As far as their being too much money, I usually get these sets for 45 bucks from Circuit City or Best Buy. Which works out to less than 12 bucks a DVD. If you consider that each disc is a whole movie, sometimes with the uncut movie added as a bonus, you're paying a comparable price for, say, 4 MGM Midnite Madness DVDs. I don't consider that a bad deal at all.

Oh, and Icon, mst3kinfo.com is probably offering that bonus DVD of shorts to make up for the fact that most fans already bought Manos: The Hands of Fate when Rhino first released it as a standalone episode, before they started doing box sets. It might make the double-dip worth it. But if THIS Manos DVD is the same as the ORIGINAL Manos DVD, then the "Poopie" outtake program is included as a bonus on the DVD itself, as you said. I can't imagine them pressing a new DVD just to take that blooper reel off.

I'm going to go ahead and order Essentials through the link at mst3kinfo.com just so I can get the bonus disc with the shorts. It seems that you order it through esecurecare.com when you click the order link on mst3kinfo.com. I never even heard of esecurecare, anyone know if they're reliable?
