Alfred Hitchcock: 10 Movie Set, any good ?

I went to best buy today, and saw about 4 different sets of hitchcock movies.

Alfred Hitchcock - The Master Of Suspense: 10 Movie Set caught my eye, and I was wondering, what company make the best of these films?

For instance I now know that MPI make the best quality for the old sherlock holmes movies

So fans of his, what sets do u have and are they great or terrible?

same goes for the AMC movies sets, i saw 2, a horror movie set that had 8 movies, and an Ultimate Collection that had 12 movies in it
How are the movies, and qualities

thanks in advance

is this the one you speak of?

i'll tell you offhand they are public domain material slapped on to a disc,
and quality are bottom notch.

take a look at these customer comments:

I'd skip it if I were you.
Get the Universal Boxsets, or individually,
the Criterion discs if you can find them (out of print),
the upcoming Warner set looks promising,
and MGM should have a nice remastered set out soon.

dont go for the small no-name companies

As a big Hitchcock fan, I can tell you to stay away from those cheap public domain sets. There are legitimate versions of those films either out now or coming out very soon. In September Warner Brothers is releasing a 9 disc set. And Universal already has 2 box sets devoted to Hitch, and may I say, Universals Alfred Hitchcock collection is some of the finest DVDs I have ever seen. MGM is supposedly releasing several titles in November, among them all the titles formerly released by Criterion, which are now out of print. So if Criterion was too steep for you, now is your chance to get these films cheaply. But if you haven't already, seek out those Universal titles. They are his best films, IMHO.

If you guys could advise me of the legitimate releases of any of the following films, I'd appreciate it, because as far as I knew, all releases of the following old Hitchcock films are public domain copies:

The Lodger (1926)
The Ring (1927)
Easy Virtue (1927)
The Farmer's Wife (1928)
The Manxman (1929)
Blackmail (1929)
Murder! (1930)
Juno and the Paycock (1930)
The Skin Game (1931)
Rich and Strange (1932)
Number Seventeen (1932)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
Secret Agent (1936)
Jamaica Inn (1939)

For my 2 cents though, I bought the Brentwood collection of 10 Hitchcock films that I got for $17. Yeah, they look crappy, but, like I said above, unless somebody can tell me prints that look better, I've enjoyed seeing Hitchcock films that I hadn't seen before. And for less than $2 a movie, I really can't complain. If nothing else, it also included the 2 Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes that were floating around the Laserlight sets (The Cheney Vase and The Sorceror's Apprentice), which were worth getting it for too.

The Following though are going to be included in the upcoming MGM box set along with Rebecca, Spellbound, Notorious, and The Paradine Case.

The 39 Steps (1935)
Sabotage (1936)
The Young and Innocent (1937)
The Lady Vanishes (1938)

The 2 Criterion editions (39 Steps & Lady Vanishes) are actually still in print, it was just their editions of Rebecca, Spellbound & Notorious that went out of print.

I would also like legitimate copies of some of those Public Domain films. I have all the Criterions, and am currently buying the Universal discs, getting the WB set this Christmas. As for some of the P. Domain films, any input?

I think the upcoming (delayed) MGM Hitchcock Set, if it ever comes out, will have some P.D. films in it...

Not too sure about any other news.
