Infernal Affairs

I just caught this on disc. I was poking around Boston's Chinatown and stumbled across an importer selling the two-discer for $15. Double checked the copyrights, if it's a boot, it's a good one.

Damn, what a great goddamn movie. I was basically expecting an overhyped action flick; that isn't this AT ALL. Really it's essentially a character drama.

I find it depressing that they optioned it for remake...who else but Miramax, huh? AND they hold the DVD rights so a US version is going to take quite a while. The remake is called "The Departed", and apparently stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, directed by Scorese.

I'll be interested to see if Scorese does something interesting with this; it sounds like they're also changing the story, just playing with the basic idea.

No, that's "Internal Affairs", the title that launched a thousand gerbil jokes. This is "Infernal Affairs", as in eeee-vil.

theta, you should check the Off-World section:

Infernal Affairs 1,2,3

Infernal Affairs Trilogy 2 Disc Individuals VS 4 Disc Tin Boxset

Great movie yes,
and the All region 2 disc Megastar releases are legit and great quality too.

Part 1is going to be in theaters this September for the US
(While part 2 gets released in September in Japan)
but you can get 1 2 and 3 legitimately from HK

I loved the first one and recently got the sequels or prequels. I have yet to watch them, but I have heard that they are good follow ups and do not fall into the category of crappy sequel for the sake of more money. Do you know where Infernal Affairs is playing in the US next month?

Although it JUST hit the US circuit theatrically,
Miramax has put out a date for INFERNAL AFFAIRS 1 on DVD

December 7th
$29.99

-2.35:1 (16x9)
-Original Cantonese, English Dub
-English, Spanish subtitles
-Making Of Infernal Affairs Featurette
-"Confidential File" Behind the Scenes Featurette
-Alternate Ending
-International Trailers
-HK Trailers

Sounds pretty nice considering Miramax.
No word on if the Audio will be DTS or Dolby,
or if the outtakes will be included.....

I got a chance to see the sequels and thought the second one was very good, but not quite as good as 1 while 3 was an OK movie, but not nearly as good as its two earlier ones. I would still recommend both to any who liked the first one.

Peek at the cover art, yet another masterpiece from some marketing chimp.

^ahhah that's hilarious. The whole film is about Andy Lau and Tony Leung and they bury them in the background in favor of a girl that's probably not even in the damn movie...

EDIT: I guess it makes sense from the perspective that, for most people picking this up off the shelves, a hot asian chick is gonna get more of a response then Andy and Tony's faces

Miramax strikes again! That's colossally shitty cover art, even by THEIR standards.

Actually, the features sound like they're pretty much taking elements from the two-disc set. Go cannibalization!

And yes, that woman is nowhere in the movie. There's not even a woman in that OUTFIT in the movie. Also, at no point does a woman brandish a firearm in the film.

Canada has different covert art (+ bilingual spine), but seemingly the same content as US Miramax edition:

Think the girl could be Elva Hsiao, the singer who acts as Tony Leung's gf. She left him cos she could not take it with all the trouble he was having in the triads.
