Well, if you mean actress who started in the movie (and not the original broadway production) it was apparently noneother than Judy Garland. At least according to a comment in its IMDB entry...

Hope this helps!

Movie-wise, Ambush is right, and I read somewhere that the newest DVD of this movie has some footage of Garland's few takes during initial filming, before she was replaced by Betty Hutton. The role was played on Broadway by Ethel Merman, if memory serves.

I dont suppose someone could help me out with a question my girlfriend has been asking of me for a while.

She's adamant that there was a movie that Judy Garland had started, filmed some of it, and then was kicked off because she was so screwed up on drugs. I've always told her it was Annie Got Your Gun, but a little while ago I read that she was taken off it for different reasons, which has made me think twice about what she's told me.

Can anyone help out?

From what I've heard, Garland was replaced because of studio pressure stemming from her personal problems. I haven't seen the footage contained in the new DVD, but those who have report that she doesn't look well.

SmiterJagy-I found this in Leonard Maltin's bio in Judy Garland's IMDB bio entry, near the bottom of the page. http://us.imdb.com/Bio?Garland,+Judy

"though she recorded tracks and filmed costume tests for Valley of the Dolls she had to be replaced by Susan Hayward when shooting began."

Perhaps this is the cause of confusion with Annie Get Your Gun?
