why aren't there more multi-audio commentary discs?
I was just wondering why there aren't more multi-audio commentary discs out there, a la se7en, fight club, or a Contact. I don't own a ton of discs, but there don't seem to be a lot of multi-commmentary discs available. When I first heard about DVD this was one of the most exciting aspects of the format to me and now seems to be vastly underused. Are there ones out there that i just don't know about?

There are plenty. But it takes time and money to get talent together to do them in the first place. To do even one commentary (like the one for Se7en with Freeman, Pitt and Fincher) takes months of planning and coordinating of schedules. To do even one commentary can potentially push a title back months. Sometimes it becomes a matter of waiting for the commentary or just putting the disc out there. It's the deadline that normally wins, especially if it's a new release. Catalogue titles, since they've been waiting on the shelf anyway, are more likely to get pushed back in order to accomodate the commentary.
Under the circumstances, we're lucky if we get a single commentary on a DVD of any quality. |
