Christmas Surprise!

Happy Holidays to all! Just wondering if everyone got what they wanted for Christmas. I was expecting the Toy Story 2-pack from my wife, but I didn't get it. She got me the Ultimate Toy Box instead!! She knows what version of a particular set is the better one. And after only several months of brainwashing!

I almost got everything I wanted for Christmas. I wanted all of my family and friends to be happy and one particular friend is sad today because she doesn't have any family and is alone.

I'm trying to get her to come spend time with me and my family.... Hopefully she will come over....

Merry Christmas to all of you!

Peace.....

I'm afraid I'm a bitter surly man and don't appreciate the Holidays much. But I certainly hope you all enjoyed yourself, and if you didn't get what you wanted, have the means to get it yourself.

I got the Boogie Nights 2 disc set. Pretty cool (I 86'd my old 1 disc version as soon as I heard about it) and thats it in the way of DVD, this Christmas was more music than movie oriented for me (not to mention that by the end of next year my DVD collection will be complete with the exception of new stuff

I gave my dad a copy of Gladiator to go with the DVD player I also got for him (a Pioneer DV-333). We watched the beginning of it on my system and he got really excited about home theater and is thinking about getting himself some home theater gear to go with the DVD player.

We also watched one of the depth charge scenes from U-571 and a couple of scenes from Amadeus and he was really impressed (with the DVD experience).

Unfortunately, his DVD player is still in the mail so when it comes I'll just have to send it to him.

By the way, I've purchased 6 DVD players this year! I bought myself my Pioneer DVL-919 and a Pioneer PDV-LC10 (my "toy") and I bought as Christmas gifts a Toshiba SD-1200 (refurb) and three Pioneer DV-333s. One went to Florida and the other two went to friends and my dad.

Of course, the gift players also had standard issue copies of "The Matrix" and I include the Toy Story Ultimate Edition Box Set with one and the above mentioned copy of Gladiator with another one.

Long Live DVD! :-)

Peace.....

That's great. I gave my parents the Pioneer 333 too. Thier first DVD experience was with The Patriot though. Even on their antiquated, pro-logic only system they were impressed with the improved sound and picture quality, and they're hardly what you'd consider "technophiles". I was actually pretty impressed with the presentation on that disc too. I'll have to borrow it now and check it out on my rig at home

Well I must say I had a great Christmas - I finally got a subwoofer! (even though it's small - 8" - I live in a condo so hopefully I won't disturb the neighbours too much). Now all I need is the cabling to hook it up! (which leads me to my newbie question - are there different types of connections for subwoofers? I believe that my receiver only has the lfe line out - it's the Yamaha RX-V496. I'm also assuming that there is a standard connector for the lfe out (rca?) - am I correct or way off base?)

I also got the Road Trip dvd for xmas and I'm pretty impressed - I love the label graphics.

tomdkat, I don't have a very impressive system at home, it's just that I have a DD/DTS setup and a Sony Wega, where my parents have an old Pro-Logic only reciever and a worn-out projection TV (looked awful to me, but better than a VHS to them). My sound rig is just one of those Kenwood, all-in-one 5.1 packages they sell. It actually sounds pretty good for the money, and now I have digital surround to keep me occupied while I can upgade like one piece at a time.
