Director's Cut of Fatal Attraction

Hi! Does anyone know if the Director's Cut of Fatal Attraction will ever be released on DVD? I have it on LD and I was just curious about the DVD.

For that matter, does anyone know if "Brain Candy" by the Kids in the Hall will ever be released on DVD?

Peace.....

It's supposedly coming next year, but I doubt it will be a Director's Cut, as such. Fatal Attraction and Star Trek IV were the only two titles released in that series by Paramount. I think they called it a Directors Series, if I'm not mistaken, which I might be.

Anyway, the DC of Fatal Attraction on the LD was not really a director's cut, it just had an alternate ending as a supplement. Since the extras for Star Trek IV were presented on the DVD the same way they were on the LD, I would expect Fatal Attraction to follow the same path. Although it would be nice if they used extended branching to give the viewer the option, but I doubt we'll be that lucky. I just can't see Paramount taking that kind of time and trouble over a catalogue title.

I'd really love Paramount to use seamless branching with this title to give you the alternate original ending as opposed to as a deleted scene. It was only cut as the theatrical cut got a higher score by the test audiences.

The theatrical version is more of a crowd pleaser, and from a business standpoint was probably the way to go, though I personally think the original ending makes for a better, and more chilling, film.

Holy nine incher!

Sorry for reviving such an old topic, but I just watched the alternative ending, or better the director's ending, for the first time and it's an about 200% better picture! I'm mean with her sitting there, Puccini in the background and slowly slitting her throat while the screen fades to black... ! Way better than the stupid B-Movie slasher ending Lyne was forced upon.

Poor Lyne must have had the urge to slit some throats himself way back when.

Let's hear what he has to say in his commentary...

OMG, the best rehearsal footage I saw so far...
Douglas is the funniest angry-man in film!

And now I know what Kinski meant when he wrote: "She was so ugly... -it made me even more horny!!"

if you don't mind importing, "Brain Candy" was released in Canada awhile ago. I have yet to pick it up, so I can't tell you any specs. It is available in Region 1 in Canada though!

EDIT: woops, I didn't notice this thread was "revived" so, Brain Candy probably came out in the U.S. the same time it did In Canada...and you probably own it by now...

Well, turns out Lyne himself also wanted to change the ending to please the (dumb) audience after the test screenings...

Poor hypocrites.

P.S.: Feel free to join the "discussion" folks...

The "crowd pleasing" ending does seem tacked on. It just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the movie.
I can't ever remember hearing of a movie being changed for the better after after a test screening

BTW as much as I hate most Paramount dvd releases (bare bones and over priced) I have to admit when they do good, they do REALLY good and the Fatal Attraction disc is a perfect example of that. What else could you ask for on this disc??
