Green Faces in SE7EN.....
I just watched the new edition of SE7EN last night and I was blown away by the new sound mix and the new transfer....until the end of the movie. At the end when Summerset tries to tell Mills that John Doe wants you to kill him, both Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman's faces appear green. It doesn't appear in the close ups, just the wide shots and the angled shots. On the mastering for home video feature, the guy was playing with the colors in this scene to demonstrate how you can color correct certain parts of a frame and leave the others alone. I was very distracted by how green their faces looked. Has anyone else noticed this? Or does my T.V's color need to be adjusted. All the other colors in the movie looked beautiful. That is why these green faces stuck out so much. Am I alone?

Keep in mind that "John Doe"'s sin was Envy so I can see why his face would be green.... :-)
Seriously, I thought I might have seen just a tinge of green during a close-up of Summerset's face but I'm sure that's just my T.V. I tend to have problems with "sun spots" as I call them where VERY bright scenes leave discolored sections on my T.V. The discoloring will disappear when the bright color (like white) goes away. I guess we'll ALL just have to watch the movie ONE MORE TIME just to make sure it's as good of a video transfer as we thought when we first watched it. (Does that sound like a good excuse to watch it again? :-) Peace..... |

when Sommerset says 'he wants you to shoot him' i noticed that Mills's face in the shadowed areas was a touch greener than it should have been. was the film color corrected for the dvd or was all that stuff on disc 2 about reframing and coloring done for the original release?
i also noticed that the grass in the Envy scene was way greener than i had ever seen before on the previous disc or on Vhs. |

That was all about the DVD. Basicly, the whole transfer of this film was redone for this edition. That may be the difference you are seeing. You might beused to the old transfer, I watched it again last night(FWIW, night being subjective here) and I thought the whole thing looked great.

Thanks for the tip! I've been playing with my TV settings (Picture/Brightness/Tint etc) and I think I've got that problem fixed. I tried using the THX Optimode Video test on the T2 Ultimate Edition DVD to help.
I think I've found some better settings fo rmy TV, but I'm not sure if they are 100% correct. The picture looks great to me, but I really don't have a good frame of reference of how my TV should actually look when properly configured. Anywho, Merry Christmas! Peace...... |

I have not noticed this, but will load it up to check that scene out. I do remember in one of the commentaries, it was mentioned that some shots were done in pre-production after the field had turned brown and they had to color-correct it (add green). I wouldn't think this would cause that problem, but it is an interesting coincidence.
