Are we gonna have to wait till 2014 for a WS Ace Ventura Pet Detictive?
I mean we had to wait for the 20th anniversary to get a WS copy of National Lampoons Vacation, and Police Acedemy respectively. the movie was WS on the Laserdisc
and Nature Calls is in WS as well but not the first one i really hope we dont have to wait till the films 20th anniversary in 2014 for a WS version of this film . I know its only ace ventura but its one of my fave movies, and one of Jims best films of his earlier career

It's unfortunate that Ace Ventura isn't in widescreen. Since it's one of the early DVD titles from Warner, it definitely got shortchanged on the aspect ratio. Up until recently Ace and Happy Gilmore were the only two comedies that I had left that weren't in widescreen. With the new Happy Gilmore edition due out, all that's left now is Ace.
I believe one of my other favorite flicks, The Paper, also isn't in widescreen. It's a pity, because it's a very good film. I guess you never know with the studios ... it's either feast (how many versions of American Pie, The Mummy, and Army of Darkness exist?) or famine (pathetic discs of Ace Ventura, Happy Gilmore, The Paper, among countless others). |

"Why did the bullet come through the wall?"
"To get to the other side?" The Paper kicks ass, a lack of widescreen makes me angry. I also want a WS of "Deathtrap", another early Warners release that showcases a GREAT performance by Christopher Reeve and a wonderful script by Ira Levin, plus direction by Sidney Lumet. The fullframe doesn't compromise the movie TOO much (it's mostly talking heads), but still. If you haven't watched it, you need to, it's great.

I have the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective LD and even though it's WS, I believe is an "open matte" or something like that vs being WS (my understanding of these terms is poor, so please excuse me.
). I think this being an "open matte" means it's not really WS even though it has letterbox bars, etc. I'm sure someone will correct me on this. ![]() Peace...

Go region free. I've had the anamorphic widescreen version of it for over a year, as well as Happy Gilmore and The Paper.
